Romania about to be cut off!

To Members of the International Executive Board, Local Union Officers and Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU)

Dear Friends,

I am writing to you regarding the relationship between the ATU and the ATU Romanian Council.  Our relationship with the ATU International first began in 1997 and has been a useful and fruitful partnership for our members from Romania, and I hope for yours as well.

We received a letter from ATU International President, Larry Hanley dated October 15, 2010 in which we were informed about the decision to suspend the financial assistance provided to the ATU Romanian Council, pending a final decision about continuing support in the near future.  We understand that the ATU International Executive Board will have a meeting next week, and they will decide on this question.

Let me say, that regardless of the Board’s decision, we are very thankful to the ATU for the past support, both experience and financial, that has been provided to us.  Without it, the creation and continuation of the ATU Romanian Council would not have been possible.  We have learned a great deal from the ATU experiences in Canada and the United States, and we believe that all transport workers in Romania are better off because of it.

I would like to let you know that regardless the decision of the ATU International Executive Board we will continue our relationships with those who are willing to do it.

With solidarity and fraternity,

Ion RADOI
President
ATU Romanian Council
