Mayor Ed Lee said today that he hopes to achieve something that has eluded the two mayors before him: Get Muni to substantially improve its on-time performance.
The mayor said he wants Muni to demonstrate ''real measurable improvements ... specifically getting Muni's on-time performance up to the voter-mandated 85 percent.''
It was 12 years ago that San Francisco voters, fed up with chronic reliability problems plaguing the city-run transit system, came up with the on-time rate.
Portland's Mayor's response: "Fuck the bus riders. If they aren't wealthy enough or special enough to live near the Streetcar, that's their problem."

Where exactly has Sam said that? I searched Google and didn't come up with anything. And in any case, San Francisco is different in that the city runs the transit service instead of a separate agency.
Under those rules, I would be toast. My last driving report,I was on time only 65% of the time.
