You getting adequate breaks?

TriMet and the ATU signed an agreement to ensure that Operators working straight runs that exceed 7½ hours get adequate breaks.

At least 70% of these straight runs must have a minimum of one 20-minute break and two 10-minute breaks.

Up to 15% of these straight runs may instead have a minimum of three 15-minute breaks.

Up to 15% of these straight runs may meet the agreement by having sufficient cumulative layover. (Runs up to 10 hours must have at least 60 minutes cumulative layover time and runs of 10 hours and longer must have at least 75 minutes cumulative layover time).

Scheduled break periods may exceed the minimums outlined in the agreement. For example, if a runs’ break is scheduled to be 30-minutes but the operator only gets a 20-minute break, the agreement has been fulfilled.

If an operator of a straight run longer than 7½ hours does not receive the minimum amount of time designated in this agreement at least 80% of the time they can request a review of their break periods.
1.
An operator can find and submit the Break Period Review Request Form at: https://trinet.trimet.org/cms/departments/operations/scheduling-service-planning/forms/break-period-review-request-form or can request a hard copy from their Assistant StationManager, Operations Assistant or Schedule Writer 1.
2.
Send hard copy to Service Planning and Scheduling. Mailstop HSPS.
3.
Service Planning and Scheduling Department will:
i.
Notify the operator that his/her form was received.
ii.
Review current and historic BDS data on the route and trip specified.
iii.
Send the operator and ATU a copy of the final report from Service Planning and Scheduling that includes a timeline for changes, if any are necessary.
4.
If it is determined that the scheduled run did not achieve the required break periods at least 80% of the time during the previous 6 months and that the cause of the failure was attributable to route factors, TriMet will adjust the run schedule at the next available sign-up.
Note: Schedules are prepared for sign-ups 4 months in advance of their effective date.
5.
When it is not possible to achieve the required breaks at least 50% of the time due to long-term conditions, TriMet and ATU will work to provide a prompt remedy.
Note: Temporary conditions including weather, special events, and short-term construction may reduce breaks below the scheduled length, but are not reasons for changing schedules.
