Why is it that those sort of activities - filling the bus with toys - seems to be very popular...Yet...TriMet didn't even bother putting out a press release? None of the local news media covered it...TriMet could EASILY generate a LOT of positive publicity and press just by running an annual toy drive campaign (it could be in conjunction with one of the other drives)...imagine TriMet partnering with KGW's Great Toy Drive, having the "KGW/TriMet Toy Bus" make appearances at various places, and if you donate a toy you get two free all-day passes on TriMet. The only cost to TriMet is the cost of the bus (and since it'd probably be a weekend-only thing that is essentially a sunk cost anyways as the bus would otherwise be parked in a garage), the fuel (what, four or five gallons of diesel?), and the cost of an Operator to drive it (which could easily be donated...the cost of the passes would just be attributed to marketing (fire one of TriMet's many marketing executives and you've already covered the cost of the project).There...TriMet. I just gave you an excellent marketing idea, FOR FREE, when you have a highly paid Marketing staff that is utterly worthless - and very expensive.
Why doesn't the union do this?
Everybody does toys...Why can't trimet be original and have a back to school drive with donated school supplies so maybe one day the kids can navigate the city and read schedules correctly?IMO, an educated city is an efficient, productive city.
