Possible impact on Wisconsin state workers by the numbers
Eau Claire (WQOW) - A number of you reached out to us Wednesday, wanting to know how Governor Walker's budget plan would affect state workers by the numbers.
Here's an example we saw in a memo from UW-Eau Claire Chancellor to staff. Right now, a full-time employee at UW-Eau Claire who makes $40,000 a year contributes about $7 a month toward their pension. That would go up to more than $190 a month under the governor's plan. The current health care contribution is about $90 a month. Under the bill, it would go up to $235.
So, if you do the math, that employee would pay $330 a month more towards health care and their pension or about $4,000 more a year.
How much a UW-Eau Claire staff member pays for health care coverage and into a retirement fund does depend on the classification of that employee and what insurance plan they've selected. This above example gives an idea of what a staff member might pay into the system.
ON TOP OF THIS, GOVERNOR WALKER WANTS TO TAKE AWAY BARGAINING RIGHTS FOR MOST STATE UNION MEMBERS, BASICALLY BUSTING THEIR UNIONS. LET'S HOPE ALL UNION MEMBERS WALK OUT AND SHUT DOWN THE STATE. LET GOVERNOR WALKER CLEAN HIS OWN TOILET IN THE EXECUTIVE WASHROOM.
