New figures show the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the developed world, while ranking ninth worst in social spending. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United States imprisons 760 of every 100,000 citizens, more than five times the OECD average.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is reportedly preparing a new effort to further weaken the public sector in his state. According to Forbes magazine, Walker’s camp is drafting legislation that would allow for a takeover of local municipalities that fail a financial stress test. Walker could then appoint emergency managers empowered to cancel union contracts, dismiss elected officials and school board members, and take control of entire cities and towns. Walker would also have unchecked authority to cancel government services, including safety net assistance. A high-powered Wisconsin law firm is said to be drafting the plan. The plan would mirror a law enacted in Michigan last month.

Different jobs attract different personalities. The Mike Tysons of the world do not go into ballet, nor do the Mother Teresas become tank commanders. The career military attracts people who run from the merely abnormal to the frankly weird. For example, they place extreme value on ritual and ceremony, on ribbons and medals and colored things more appropriate to a Christmas tree than to a human being. They are authoritarian by nature, comfortable in a rigid, hierarchical, and conformist society that most of us would find equally unbearable and absurd. Suppose your boss told everyone in the office that they had to wear exactly the same clothes and stand at attention in the morning to that he could determine whether they had dressed themselves correctly. Militaries start with odd material.

I drove the Hybrid
There is a big difference in the braking/acceleration characteristics compared to the traditional low floors.I enjoyed driving it for 6 hours.
TYRANTS CONCEDE THAT PASSENGERS WALKING INTO THINGS ARE NOT THE OPERATORS FAULT?
We have been informed by reliable sources that the tyrants who are currently running Trimet Transit District and have been blaming operators when careless passengers injure themselves by stupidly walking into an wheelchair lift that is in operation, are now conceding that the carelessness and stupidity of the public is not the fault of the operator after all!
This after they have tyrannically punished numerous operators for accidents when the bus is not even moving!
It's unbelievable! It's incredible! Can Trimet management actually be using logic and reason? Are they finally waking up to the fact that NOT EVERY SINGLE THING THAT HAPPENS IN THE BUS IS THE OPERATORS FAULT!
