I think if TriMet wants to fix the healthcare problem, all they need to do is pass the $$ for health care to the union & tell the union that they're in charge of providing health care coverage in whatever way they see fit.

At that point the union/employees are directly in charge of what their plan looks like, how much they do/don't pay, retiree benefits, etc. When the plan costs goes up, then the union has to deal with collecting more money from the employees, reducing benefits, finding cost savings, explaining the cost rise to the employees, etc.

Seems like everybody wins.

Many of my associates  have been asking me about the name change for my blog.
I try to explain to them that since TRIMET is using its WEB SITE to basically defame and demean its union personnel I thought it was appropriate to use my web site to return the favor to TRIMET EXECUTIVES.

I would have never thought of doing such a thing as this in the past, but the past is gone, we have a whole new bunch of tyrants ruling the roost and apparently the gloves are off.

And just like operators use seniority to sign good runs, non-union employees can use how long they’ve been at TriMet to bid for a good office. So to the newly hired Executive Director of HR? Sorry my friend, you’ll probably get stuck with no air conditioning. Good thing Oregon summers are more or less mild. But don’t worry! Every hour or so you’ll be allowed to get up, drink some ice water, and use the bathroom, as long as you don’t take more than 10 minutes to do all that.

This has been kicking around in my head since the budget tool was released. In part, as previously mentioned, because I thought that was a poor representation of possible options to save money. But more than that, all the sniping little comments in there taking shots at the union made me feel very uncomfortable. Personally I think that is grossly unprofessional for an official TriMet release. It’s not empowering, it doesn’t show trust, and it certainly isn’t standing behind union workers.

FIRST TRANSITUNION BUSTER SPIES ride the system posing as actual riders and send in “secret”reports which management then takes as gospel truth to harass its operators.

There is the never ending “YOU DIDN’T CALL YOUR STOPS” violations that never seem toend . The management squids won’t define which stops to call, and don’t tellyou how to do the job correctly, they jus t continue down their path of endlessintimidation of its employees like we are “mind readers” and are supposed to knowwhat they actually want. 

The whole thing has turned into a comedy show, this neverending persecution has led me to just do the best job I can and laugh when theycall me in for one of their phony meetings. I have taken steps to protectmyself from the libelous ‘secret liars’ and I would encourage others to do thesame.

Your employer is against you and the public has been turnedagainst you!

The ‘secret liars’ are not only making up lies regarding thecall stop nonsense, which in reality is happening because TRIMET MANAGEMENT DID NOT FULFILL ITS RESPONSIBILITY IN UPGRADINGITS EQUIPMENT TO ADA COMPLIANT, but they are also making up nonsensesuch as “operator didn’t scan”.
Unless the ‘secret liars’ are sitting right across from adriver, they have no way to know what we are doing.
It’s just another STALINISTINTIMIDATION TACTIC.

PORTLAND -- Police were looking Tuesday morning for a man who spit in the face of a TriMet driver on NE 122nd, north of Halsey.
The passenger ran from the bus. His girlfriend was detained, according to TriMet officials.
The couple boarded the bus without valid transfers, said Sgt. Pete Simpson. They were asked by the driver to leave the bus when the man spit on the driver.

GLOSSARY


3/4 mile boundary - The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires, at a minimum, that complementary paratransit service be provided within a corridor of three‑quarters of a mile on either side of a fixed‑route. A transit agency may increase that corridor. TriMet has adopted the 3/4 mile boundary.
ADA ride: An ADA eligible customer is transported from an origin and to a destination within the ADA service boundary (3/4 mile of a fixed‑route).
ADA Eligible: The ADA rules state that if a person is unable to use fixed‑route service because of a disability, or is unable to get to/from a fixed‑route stop because of a disability, that person is eligible to receive paratransit service.
ADA: Acronym for the Americans with Disabilities Act, enacted into law in July, 1990.
Agency client: A person who is sponsored by a social service agency which contracts with TriMet to provide transportation for its clients. The agency is billed for the ride.

It has been some time since ATU 757 has held a picket before the Tri Met Board meeting but this is so important that we feel we have no choice but to do it again. Please come join us at this informational picket January 25th at 8:00 am in front of the Portland building. Please feel free to stay for the meeting (9:00am) and give your opinion to the TriMet board.

TriMet has no budget crisis and they need to manage taxpayer dollars better.  There is no need for slick expensive brochures that attack 87% of their employees, websites or meetings with the public. TriMet should sit down and work with ATU 757.  Please go to www. atu757.org to see the Union's recommendations for TriMet.

This information, along with the attached flier is meant for wide distribution and for all politicians and government board members. Please print and distribute the flier to all tax payers and those who are fed up with TriMet’s mismanagement of funds, sending millions of dollars overseas, unnecessary rate hikes and service cuts.

We have been asking for help from all politicians for a long time with regards to TriMet’s illegal actions toward our members. Please investigate our recommendations and help us make TriMet a more efficient agency.

The unfortunate truth about this issue is that our Local Union leadership has allowed the Board of Directors, their management henchmen, their respective private profiteers, and the popular press to control the messages our otherwise supportive friends and neighbors receive through widely varied news & information mediums. They have been largely successful at diverting the PEOPLES attention away from their mismanagement of the public transit system by inviting the media to foment vitriolic, and sometimes violent public outrage focused on irrational criticisms of front-line WORKERS, bus operators, who have human failings as we all do, but have not been afforded their Constitutional Rights to ‘privacy’ & ‘due process’. Instead, their Media Relations & Public Information henchmen obstruct the PEOPLES view of management malfeasance, by maliciously crucifying operators in the public arena and blaming the Union for budget shortfalls, increased fares, cuts in services, and their neglect to repair and replace worn out equipment and facilities. They do this while the anointed appointed Board of Directors and the District’s General Manager artfully dodge public scrutiny of the misappropriation of funds for ‘Capital Improvements’ that primarily benefit private profiteers.

In the space of five minutes one driver called in and said he was threatened by a passenger who demanded to be let off where he wanted and another driver made an emergency call to dispatch requesting police on the 4 Division bus.

this is one of my biggest complaints. One of the reasons I'm still continuing to grieve the Lost/Found policy PSC adopted from TM recently. I don't really care if the lost/found policy goes back to what our contract says...I just expect the union and TM/PSC to negotiate over it. It is not an Operator's job to pick up anything!! We used to have an option of being "compensated" for picking up an item and turning it in. Now we don't. Therefore, we stop picking up lost and found items (no policy or rule trying to say we have to...union needs to fight anything they try to add to our job description without adding compensation). I am sick and tired of more and more being put on Operators without bargaining! (amen to that one) Now I hear Rail Ops are supposed to do something with bio hazards...It is not our job!! When Michael T. Oliver was our Eboard officer at Rail, he successfully got us to be compensated for using tools if we had to manually put in a bridgeplate, pantograph, etc. The Ops aren't supposed to be using tools...that is a Mechanic's job. Since TM doesn't want to wait for the mechanic, it's easier to have the Op do it. Fine...but it has to be negotiated and compensated!

I had noticed the incident in acid last week. When I saw the reason for the fill, I knew it was going to be placed in my lap for the schedule. I checked the information over the past two sign ups on the card data and found that operator XXXX does have a problem with the schedule. Unfortunately, most of the others who drives that block doesn't have the same problem. This would indicate that it infact isn't necessarily a schedule problem. I have sent you a chart with the card data information. Please note that the blue colored squares are within 5 minutes of the schedule. The purple ones are for 15 minute or more late. If you feel after looking at this information that I need to make further adjustments, then please let me know.

Five-day lane closure on West Burnside Street begins January 23

(Portland, Ore.) – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that the right, westbound travel lane will be closed on West Burnside Street between Northwest Uptown Terrace and Northwest MacLeay Boulevard beginning Monday, January 23, through Friday, January 27, all hours and all days. The closure is necessary to remove old trolley tracks and repair the failed road base under the asphalt surface.

The public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously and observe all work zone signage.

This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.

So the concept that TRIMET is setting the stage for legislative action, either through a public referendum or action by the legislator is a sound theory.

my bitch is that too many people, especially in the maintenance dept, being represented by the union, there are some bad apples in the barrel, that spoil it for everyone. there are some fine individuals who really care about their work, and excel at what they do, in all the departments. but we do have some people who do work out in the field and are in direct contact with the public just as much as any driver out there. we at the front lines are the first ones the public sees at times and give us much grief. when i was a helper cleaning platforms, parking lots and bathrooms, we would be the ones called to clean up bio hazards, and some of that is absolutely gross. example: i was called to clean up a pile of defecation someone did on a west bound bench at quatama. many times, it's vomit we have to clean up. as a tech, there are times people pee into the change/ticket tray, guess who gets to clean that up?

  • 7:47 p.m. Transit police reported a disturbance at the Northshore Mall involving an MBTA bus near Lahey Clinic. They said a woman was ramming the bus with her shopping cart. Police said the woman refused to identify herself and the transit officers handled the incident.

Many of us out at MERLO have been roped into this bullshit ADA call stop nonsense.
The assholes we work for don't even attempt to verify a so called report of not calling stops. (For example, there is a trip that supposedly didn't call the stops, there is no effort made to see if this is a pattern or a one time aberration , TRIMET operators are expected to be PAVLOVIAN in nature, never actually being human and tiring.)
THE MANAGEMENT HAS NO IDEA HOW TIRING IT IS TO CONSTANTLY BE CALLING THESE FUCKING STOPS BECAUSE THE ASSHOLES THAT RUN THIS PLACE FAILED TO UPGRADE THE EQUIPMENT TO ADA COMPLIANT!

In my case, I know for a fact that the report was a blatant lie.
Others have the exact same experience.
Yet the slimy management persists in torturing its employees with these anonymous FIRST TRANSIT spy's that ride our buses and pretend to be actual riders.

One of things I like about working here is hanging out with my fellow operators at the MERLO GARAGE.
Many of us pool our experiences and compare notes, and of course I BLOG EVERYTHING, and sometimes am in a position to check out various aspects of experiences.

Recently a fellow operator called dispatch and requested a call stop list. The dispatcher said they would "get it to them."
After some delay it was finally relayed to the dispatcher that no such thing existed and that they should inform the operator to
CALL OUT ALL MAJOR INTERSECTIONS AND TRANSFER POINTS.
The dispatcher told the operator to CALL OUT ALL MAJOR STOPS AND INTERSECTIONS.
There was no reference made to calling out 'every time you turn the bus' or anything else for that matter.

THE MANAGEMENT THEMSELVES DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE PROCEDURE IS.

AND THIS IS WHO WE WORK FOR AND DISCIPLINES US, A COMPANY WHERE THE MANAGEMENT DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE PROCEDURE.

Accidents involving headphone-wearing pedestrians on the rise

They found 116 reports of death or injury of pedestrians wearing headphones. Of them, 81 were fatal.
The majority of victims were male under the age of 30, and almost nine out of 10 cases were in urban areas.
A full 55 per cent of the accidents involved trains, and almost three in 10 cases mentioned that the trains or cars involved in the crashes blew their horns but were not heard.

It's been real, y'all.

No, seriously, it doesn't get more real than this. Since April 2009, I've been riding one CTA bus a week, end to end, in an attempt to travel every CTA bus route. I finally finished last month—after 139 bus trips.

I started this project when I took over as RedEye's CTA columnist as a way to get to know the transit system. In the end, I got to know Chicago and its residents—some in embarassingly intimate ways.

I've been spit on and hit on. I've sat in urine and sunflower seeds. I've traveled through marsh and wooded areas just to get to bus stops—only to wait 20 minutes for the next bus.
