However, wouldn't the operator have reported it back to trimet via dispatch and shouldn't trimet have verified the report before releasing the news? We get lies by the media daily, but things as painfully silly as this should be verified first?

In all fairness to KOIN, the driver did report that the bus was shot at.

I don't think Trimet reported it to the news...
Actually I heard the call and tweeted it and then it was picked up in the news.
