These are some ties that support the Union Pacific mainline track through Salem - where a dozen or so freight trains, and six Amtrak trains cross over each day.
How do you feel about riding over this track at 79 MPH? If you think this is bad...this is actually "good" track.

Thats the UP for ya. When I worked there, It was commonly spoken how much in poor shape UPs rail was, and how nice BNs rail is.
