Real Trimet incident reports

Three conditions in the external restrooms at St. Johns Racquet Club, 7519 N. Burlington Ave, are unacceptable in my opinion and the opinion of many operators who use them.

First of all, while I can't confirm that it is a TriMet employee(s) doing this there is ball-point pen graffiti repeatedly showing up on the walls in both restrooms. These restrooms are accessible with our key and to the best of my knowledge we are the main users of this facility. I have observed graffiti referencing internal TriMet matters in the past so I am suspicious that a/some employees may be writing on the walls.

I have no idea what can be done to curb this behavior if it in fact is employee(s) doing this. Perhaps a low-key campaign reminding that this is one way to lose a facility?

Secondly, there is one exhaust fan in each restroom, but neither works. Besides the expected short-term aftermath odors, these restrooms always smell musty, stale and just plain unpleasant in general. What can be done to get these fans activated, or switches/timers installed so users can activate them? Perhaps we could offer to swap out their incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights as a trade off for the electrical use of the fans.

There have been on going conversations with the property owner ( and facilities) about the conditions mentioned. I believe our facilities folks were planning on assisting with repair of the damage that may be caused by our employees. Once the repair work is done I think some targeted visits to do a property check would be great. We really need to try and pin down who is doing the damage or we may loose use of the facility. Thanks for the info and photos.

The damage at this facility was first brought to our attention several months ago through Portland Parks Bureau - it was investigated by the District Supervisor with photos & request for repair submitted. Facility access is limited - TM Operators/Supervisors and Bureau employees only.
Step I is cleaning and repair, please consider this as official request for repair to Facilities in coordination with the Park Bureau.

Next step is targeted checks and effective messaging to Operators using this facility: Lines 4 and 6.
A tool that has been very effective is creating a specific message to insert into pouches -  may we have your assistance in creating/placing this message in 4/6 route pouches?

Russ - short-term steps identified above. Once clean-up is completed and messaging to Operator in pouches are in place - what are your recommendations to support Field Ops efforts in managing this facility's condition?
===================
Since district 1 units wind up at Burlington & Leonard routinely anyway, I don't think it would be too much to ask that the facilities at the racquet center get checked at least every other day. This would be effective in monitoring cleanliness. Any discrepancies could be reported via radio or phone to ensure the quickest response possible.

As for the vandalism, I have no clue as to what to do about preventing that. The only sure way to crack down on that would be to have someone camp out there and check the facility after every use. This would be just plain unreasonable not to mention the fact that there's no way we have the manpower to do that, and it would open the door to accusations of invasion of privacy, defamation of character, etc. So perhaps we can open the floor for suggestions as to how to handle the graffiti.
