McFührer's tricks

Having watch McFüher since the day he got here, I am pretty sure he is setting up a major showdown with the unionized employees.


For example he is well aware that more 1/2 the bus drivers are new, less than 5 years. I would imagine that all these new drivers are "happy to have a job" with decent pay and whatever benefits he wants to give them. These newbies are not likely to shake the boat.


He has made the rest of us miserable for a reason, he wants all the seasoned employees out of here because he knows we won't put up with his nonsense.


This sets up a scenario where the majority of employees are all newbies who most likely will be to scared to strike.
McFührer then breaks the union and achieves the goal. He will be worshiped as a hero to the executive class

It is clear that ATU 757 must emphasize and focus it's attention in Salem to preserve binding arbitration (2007). In addition, ATU must press forward with Kitzhaber to restructure transparant accountability by adding a public citizen and an ATU Representative to the TriMet Board.
Please remember that at the same time TriMet was beating the drums of "we are broke and we cannot sustain the enormous labor benefit costs", they added numerous new excecutives to their payroll, borrowed more funds from the Feds, added debt with new bonds,cut Bus and Lift service, raised fares, and still have NOT funded their pension obligation.
They are broke and it is not due to the labor contract. It is due to their extreme mismanagement of public funds.

Well said! I think the public is finally starting to see the light. The employees are not the problem! Management ( mismanagement) is the problem.

My personal feeling is that we should have the right to strike.

I think its about Time to show the people of Portland who runs this transit system.

Settle it once and for all. Arbitration is just creating ill will
towards us and can lead to massive service cuts which can then be blames on union employees.

If we walk off the job they got nothing, people need to see that.

Additionally the right to strike was taken from us without our permission.

Some of us think that is a basic right of a union member.

Clearly agree that ATU members should guide the President's strategy or decision; however, the 2007 move placed greater protection for it's members as arbitration is premised upon "just cause" and "reasonable prudence" of action by either party.
It is strongly viewed that TriMet will fail to persuade the Arbitor in either of those measurments. Additionally, TriMet has lost twice on this matter which will weigh substantially in the final decision.
