SEEN ON FACEBOOK

lots of drivers suffered heat stroke this weekend i hope all is doing better but im a little outraged why trimet and our union weren't out handing water out to drivers. i did in the past for our union when it would get above 90 i asked jon to do a water patrol driving our union van handing out water to members.what wasn't it done this weekend?this is unacceptable in my book.

The handing out of water is always appriciated bur not always the answer. I was one of the drivers who suffered heat stroke this weekend. I always carry a mini cooler full of ice downed water with me on my trips. Sunday I had already drank two and a half liters of water. It wasn't a matter of dehydration that caused me to pass out behind the wheel (I was lucky enough to recognize I was in trouble and pull over and call for help beforehand). Driving an 1800 series bus with according to the EMT an internal temp of 110 degrees was. My body had stop producing sweat and my personal temp was 104 degrees.

I stopped three times from Sherwood to Greaham and tried to cool myself down. It didn't help. Should it happen again, I will stop for longer and let dispatch know I'm overheating. Be sure you let someone know and recognize if your getting in trouble. I had 6 passengers on board who were to busy bitching they were stranded to offer any help to me. The last thing I heard as the EMTs were bringing me back around was one of my passengers asking him to honk the horn for the 77. Not a one cared I was in serious trouble.

Simple. TriMet managers and ATU don't work weekends.

I used to endure that torture-I actually developed a UTI from dehydration-and I drank plenty of water.

It's inhuman that in the year 2012 Trimet still does not have an air conditioned fleet-even if it isnt hot every summer we can always count on some hot summers and some hot days each summer.

Do not think anyone will help you in your time of need, pull your bus over and let dispatch know your condition. Don't drive, it is a saftey hazard. Let dispatch deal with it, not you. Your health is your main concern.
