DHS AND TRIMET

Anyone else deeply offended at seeing DHS in full force in downtown Portland today hanging out at the max stations? I'm pretty sure we already have our own local state/county/and city police force here that we pay for and elect the leaders of. So why are we being policed by DHS? The anniversary of something that happened 11 years ago and 3000 miles away is hardly a reason to have a bunch of LEO washouts eyeballing me when I step off the max

DHS does *whatever the hell it wants to*. Unfortunately, no local government has had the guts to kick 'em out. (Would make for a big fight.)

TriMet could kick them out but the feds would probably say "no more federal funding for you."

And we all know TriMet loves that federal funding for light rail projects...so...we get VIPR.

Last time I saw a VIPR team (at PGE Park) they were just standing around doing...well...nothing. No different than TriMet's field supervisors or most of the Transit Security/Transit Police force. Not really sure what they were doing. Except justifying more cutbacks to the bus system.
