Why Trimet will not allow bike racks that hold 3 bikes-official answer

Yes, we tested the 3-bike rack as we've looked to increase bike capacity on buses. After testing it we found that it was not a safe option for us. During our test, we found that when loaded with bikes they created safety concerns because they blocked the operator’s vision, impacted the operators line of sight and blocked headlights. Additionally they present safety concerns when turning in areas with narrow streets or tight clearances. We remain in contact with vendors and are monitoring design changes to determine if we are able to try them out again in the future. Have a question you would like answered,

What?? What overpaid cronie said THIS?? King County Metro & Sound Transit buses operated by us, has over 1400 bike racks that hold 3 bikes our our buses.

And we have a new style that is designed to block less of the headlights when stowed. https://plus.google.com/photos/100818990555287149517/albums/5776615208316737809

TriMet is just too cheap to care, and in a bike culture like Portlands, thats why no one with bike will ride, besides, they can probably get to their destination faster instead of waiting.

I call BS! Who wants to bet that they haven't even actually tried it? I wouldn't be surprised...
The lewis and clark college (40ft) bus that traverses downtown has a rack for three bikes in the front and a rack for two in back. I've seen it on the transit mall and the roads around that college aren't necessarily that wide...
And other transit agencies do it. A lot of them. But they must have 'magic' buses that don't have the issues trimet claims it would. TriMet could easily do it. Plus, a lot of transit agencies do this with artic buses, don't they?
