MORE ABOUT BRICKER VS TRIMET
CIVIL RIGHT ABUSES DURING TRIMET'S NAZI FARE INSPECTION MISSIONS (I am totally against Trimet's Nazi style fare inspections and excessive fines for not paying a $2.50 fare)

I haven't watched the videos yet but IT'S PUBLIC TRANSIT CHAD! FINANCED 100% BY TAX PAYER FUNDS. THE RIDERS ARE MOSTLY TAX PAYERS AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.
THEY ARE NOT THERE TO BE ABUSED! A $2.50 FARE DOES NOT DESERVE MISTREATMENT OR A $170 FINE!
ITS GOVERNMENT PREDATION.
It the thing was financed by private interests then it would be a different story.
PEOPLE MAKE FORTUNES WORKING IN PUBLIC TRANSIT!
I WILL NOT CONDONE TREATING CITIZENS LIKE CRIMINALS
Its financed by 80% in taxpayer funds, and 20% of fares (approx, find your budget pie chart). So its OK for some people to not pay the fare while others do? Service will suffer with loss of fares. If you dont pay, you should pay! And watch the videos Al, you'll see MUNI doing the same thing. The only people being singled out....are the ones who think they are entitled to a free ride. Taxpayers help make transit affordable for all.....but not free!
I don't consider those inspections to be Nazi's having watched the movies.
I still say the fine is not commensurate to the crime.
Especially when everybody that is working for transit is making a fortune most of the people not paying fare are genuinely poor.
I fine of $20 would be appropriate, not fucking $175 or $100.
And that's why I never made anybody pay a fare, nor did I ever enforce a fare, nor did I ever push the button, because I felt ashamed to be making $25 with platinum benefits while forcing poor people to pay. Its government predation.
Thats the whole thing Al, its not your job to enforce the fare. Same thing with MAX operators, and whats seen n the videos. Its on the rider to do the right thing, and pay the $2 fare (2.50 on TriMet). So lets stick with Light rail here, if you choose not to pay a fare, and you get caught say once every 10 rides, and get that $20 ticket, youve SAVED money. the point of an expensive fine is to discourage "Theft of Services". Operations are not 100% paid for by taxpayers, thats why riders need to help pay for the ride they take. In your context, it should be OK to head to gas station, and steal gas, because they might be poor, or whatever.
So, I completely disagree with you, pay the fare, everyone gets one freebee, so if they didnt know, they are informed, after that, there really isnt an excuse, and odds are you have ridden for free all along, look at one of the videos where the guy didnt pay into town everyday.....they deserve to pay back what they stole. Everyone is treated equal, if you didnt pay a fare, they will call you out on it, thats all there is to it. Its not up to me, or any driver to make that call, its up to the fare inspectors.
