STOP THE MADNESS

It has been some time since ATU 757 has held a picket before the Tri Met Board meeting but this is so important that we feel we have no choice but to do it again. Please come join us at this informational picket January 25th at 8:00 am in front of the Portland building. Please feel free to stay for the meeting (9:00am) and give your opinion to the TriMet board.

TriMet has no budget crisis and they need to manage taxpayer dollars better.  There is no need for slick expensive brochures that attack 87% of their employees, websites or meetings with the public. TriMet should sit down and work with ATU 757.  Please go to www. atu757.org to see the Union's recommendations for TriMet.

This information, along with the attached flier is meant for wide distribution and for all politicians and government board members. Please print and distribute the flier to all tax payers and those who are fed up with TriMet’s mismanagement of funds, sending millions of dollars overseas, unnecessary rate hikes and service cuts.

We have been asking for help from all politicians for a long time with regards to TriMet’s illegal actions toward our members. Please investigate our recommendations and help us make TriMet a more efficient agency.

The unfortunate truth about this issue is that our Local Union leadership has allowed the Board of Directors, their management henchmen, their respective private profiteers, and the popular press to control the messages our otherwise supportive friends and neighbors receive through widely varied news & information mediums. They have been largely successful at diverting the PEOPLES attention away from their mismanagement of the public transit system by inviting the media to foment vitriolic, and sometimes violent public outrage focused on irrational criticisms of front-line WORKERS, bus operators, who have human failings as we all do, but have not been afforded their Constitutional Rights to ‘privacy’ & ‘due process’. Instead, their Media Relations & Public Information henchmen obstruct the PEOPLES view of management malfeasance, by maliciously crucifying operators in the public arena and blaming the Union for budget shortfalls, increased fares, cuts in services, and their neglect to repair and replace worn out equipment and facilities. They do this while the anointed appointed Board of Directors and the District’s General Manager artfully dodge public scrutiny of the misappropriation of funds for ‘Capital Improvements’ that primarily benefit private profiteers.

In the space of five minutes one driver called in and said he was threatened by a passenger who demanded to be let off where he wanted and another driver made an emergency call to dispatch requesting police on the 4 Division bus.

ARE OPERATORS RESPONSIBLE FOR PEOPLE LOSING THINGS ON THE BUSES?

this is one of my biggest complaints. One of the reasons I'm still continuing to grieve the Lost/Found policy PSC adopted from TM recently. I don't really care if the lost/found policy goes back to what our contract says...I just expect the union and TM/PSC to negotiate over it. It is not an Operator's job to pick up anything!! We used to have an option of being "compensated" for picking up an item and turning it in. Now we don't. Therefore, we stop picking up lost and found items (no policy or rule trying to say we have to...union needs to fight anything they try to add to our job description without adding compensation). I am sick and tired of more and more being put on Operators without bargaining! (amen to that one) Now I hear Rail Ops are supposed to do something with bio hazards...It is not our job!! When Michael T. Oliver was our Eboard officer at Rail, he successfully got us to be compensated for using tools if we had to manually put in a bridgeplate, pantograph, etc. The Ops aren't supposed to be using tools...that is a Mechanic's job. Since TM doesn't want to wait for the mechanic, it's easier to have the Op do it. Fine...but it has to be negotiated and compensated!

Proving what most of us already know, THEY HAVE ALL THE FACTS ABOUT LATE/EARLY, YELLOW CARDS ARE NOT NECESSARY:

I had noticed the incident in acid last week. When I saw the reason for the fill, I knew it was going to be placed in my lap for the schedule. I checked the information over the past two sign ups on the card data and found that operator XXXX does have a problem with the schedule. Unfortunately, most of the others who drives that block doesn't have the same problem. This would indicate that it infact isn't necessarily a schedule problem. I have sent you a chart with the card data information. Please note that the blue colored squares are within 5 minutes of the schedule. The purple ones are for 15 minute or more late. If you feel after looking at this information that I need to make further adjustments, then please let me know.
