ABOUT THE CONGRESSIONAL TRANSIT FUNDING
All this gnashing of teeth over the republican take over of transit funds. I don't really get it?
I don't see the fed's actually helping any of the transit dependent riders.
Transit is a mess across the country, BEFORE THIS REPUBLICAN TAKE OVER, how can it get much worse?
Look at Trimet specifically, all I see federal funding being used for is high priced pencil pushers and a bunch of construction contracts.
It's not helping any transit riders.
So I say who cares about the Federal money, its already wasted now.

But now there's a problem: TriMet's government affairs staff apparently
fell asleep at the wheel during the 2011 Legislature. Until last month,
the agency was oblivious to a new law – signed by Gov. John Kitzhaber
last June– that ended TriMet's ability to collect money from fines.
Since Jan. 1, the money that once went to the agency has been funneled into a state public-safety fund created by House Bill 2712.
Now, anticipating a sudden loss of about $250,000 this year, TriMet is lobbying hard for an amendment during the current, abbreviated legislative session. The agency is already facing a budget gap of up to $17 million.

At Trimet there is always some excuse for not allowing the public to see things.

Letters
Can't find this online, but in the letters section of yesterdays Tribune there is a letter from a Richard Ferguson praising the enforcement efforts of a 12 line operator. Appartenly this operator was enforcing this "new policy" on New Years Eve (before 800PM I hope). Looks to me like it's a case of another stupid operator asking for a knuckle sandwich.
