OPERATOR CLEARED IN TIGARD INCIDENT

Zoe Ann Mead

TriMet bus driver didn't have enough time to avoid crash with Tigard woman, police said | OregonLive.com

Gresham Transit Center a safety hazard now

As one of the knee-jerk reactions to the Sandy Day incident, buses that layover in the transit center proper are not allowed to turn right onto Kelly Ave. The rationale was that a danger of a bus being struck by the railroad crossing arm exists. So they moved the 9 layover to where the 20 used to (on 8th St.) moved to 12 to where the 9 used to be, and the 20 where the 12 was. It DOES NOT WORK! Neither operators or road supervisors were ever consulted.

The 9 only runs every 40 minutes or worse, but has almost the entire block to layover. During the day, the 20 runs just as often as the 4 yet is only allocated one space in the TC so operators coming in as a 20 only have the undesignated overflow bay if it is available. If it isn't there are no instructions as to what to do. So the poor operator with the bladder and/or rectum which is in dire need of being emptied has to drive around several blocks to either go try again or go to the line 4 overflow on 10th Drive nearside Hood.

Did the 45 used to just cross Pacific Hwy at McDonald/Main instead of turning onto Pac Hwy from Walnut then onto Main?

Yes it did. It went behind the church there but they rerouted because drivers would occasionally clip the stop sign at Walnut and Grant.

Well hell let's blame the incident on Service Planning then! They act like they're infallible (look at the bullshit at Gresham TC.) Lay this on them and give them a reality check.

I hear you , I'm just sick and tired of safety being placed solely on the operator. Since Service Planning & Scheduling changed the route, I feel they should be scrutinized for this too. But believe-you-me the lady managing that department believes her shit doesn't stink and doesn't give a rat's snot ball what's really going on outside of her office.

Erik found this great advertisment

This is a scary looking billboard. Bus stop on the 15 line near 23rd and Thurman, next to a parking lot instead of transit friendly businesses.

Oregon Transformation
The Biscuit Wheels are Falling off the Gravy Train
TriMet proposed big changes at the agency last week to fill a $12 to $17 million budget hole, which will mean more pain for its customers.
Longer waits, higher fares, more transfers, and no more “free rail zone” or using the same ticket for going back the same way you came.
So does the budget crunch mean TriMet has less money than it did last year? Not quite.
TriMet’s operating budget is expanding $50 million this year, or 12 percent.
In fact, since 2007 TriMet’s operating funding has increased 28 percent or $103 million. TriMet’s total resources have increased 65 percent or $392 million over the same period.
2012 02 17 Biscuit Wheels TriMet is costing more and giving less
So what is TriMet giving its customers in return?
Between 2007 and 2011, total miles driven by TriMet buses has decreased almost three million miles, while being offset by an increase of only 500,000 rail miles.
In total, TriMet had a decrease in service by 2.5 million miles.
More money, less service.
