TriMet is a national model? What a joke!
I drove a real winner today. The microphone needed viagra; the train box had newspaper as a cushion;the floor board had paper towels to stop the air leak;the windows and floors were filthy.I must be in Hillbilly Heaven.

The "next big thing"

Saturday, April 7. 2012
800px WES train e1333581637367 127x150 With Low WES Ridership, the “Next Big Thing” May Be Raising FaresThree years ago, TriMet began operating its first heavy rail line, the Westside Express Service (WES). This line runs from Beaverton to Wilsonville during commuting hours on weekdays.
WES was trumpeted as the “next big thing,” but opening year ridership averaged only 1,156 boardings per day, less than half the 2,500 predicted by TriMet. The agency lost nearly $24 on each trip.
TriMet just finished its third full year of operation for WES. Average daily ridership is up to 1,571 boardings, but each trip still requires a subsidy of $18. This is eight times higher than the subsidy needed for the average TriMet trip and costs taxpayers $7.4 million each year.
WES turned out to be a disaster, but no one at TriMet is accepting responsibility. Agency management simply plans to raise passenger fares again, and they also will be raising taxes on businesses.
TriMet board members are not elected, so we cannot demand a management change at the ballot box. But the board is appointed by the Governor, who is elected. It’s time for the Governor to demand better performance from his political appointees.

In anticipation of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail project, TriMet is looking to ramp up its command center and operations facilities. TriMet has called for bids for construction manager/general contractor services to renovate the agency’s Center Street Administration Building. The renovated building will include a new, expanded Operations Command Center, as well as expanded operations facilities.

TRIMET EXECUTIVE WAGES FROZEN? I DON'T THINK SO!

As is obvious, the Pork flies like there is no tomorrow at Trimet. The executive pay is all over the place, some of those executives have gotten raises consistently over the last three years, some got big bumps last year and then went back down this year.

Union Calls for TriMet GM Replacement

Union Calls for TriMet GM Replacement

The union representing TriMet unionized employees, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757 is calling on the Governor and TriMet Board of Directors to replace current TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane because of lack of leadership and poor managerial decisions.

“It is time for a new direction at TriMet,” says Jonathan Hunt, President of the Union.  Hunt claims that McFarlane lacks the skills and abilities to effectively deal with the unionized workforce at TriMet, and has been responsible for repeated poor leadership and management decisions that have unnecessarily cost the agency and the taxpayers millions of dollars.

Hunt will present the resolution at the Occupy TriMet rally beginning at 4pm at Pioneer Square on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, kicking off a signature drive for petitions to present to the Governor’s office and Chairman of the TriMet Board.
