I was the only roomer for the event and was very busy, I think that we need more than I roomer for the event. There were long delays for the buses in many of the bump-through. The reroute for the line 14 were confusing to the drivers and passengers. And the report time should have been 5am and not 5:30am.

TVM machines were not in good working order.
One TVM was “Out of Service” and the other was barely working.  People had to wait in a long line to buy a fare and missed a train they could have easily been on.  We may get several complaints about the operational issues of our TVM machines.  Both should have been in good working order for the event.

Mr. xxxxxx stated that he was slightly distracted East bound with last minute customers east bound at 82nd Ave. He took a point of power and realized he had not called the signal and would trip. He called control pulled back recalled and proceeded. He was fit for duty and was off for the day.
I arrived Gresham Transit at 21:43. As I drove by bus # 2272 operating as a number 9. I noticed the drivers side from the operators cab window back had fresh gang paint on the side of the bus. I called dispatch reporting it and contacted the bus operator she also said it was new. The paint was tacky to the touch and you could still smell it.

On Wednesday 4/18/12 my partner, xxxx and I de-boarded a SB train, (9064) at 850pm. As we walked to the front of the train i looked over at the operator, xxxxx and noticed him wearing a black or blue beanie hat and a silver earpiece in his right ear.

Had to call CTran to hold last bus at Delta Park.
Two busses were not enough to handle the load due to too many bicycles. Twice we had trains with 5 bicycles on board. Also, Dispatch had to call CTran and have them hold the last bus from Delta Park until our bus got there to transfer passengers. We should have made arrangements with CTran earlier.

Brothers and Sisters,
I am writing this concerning the so called “Safety Committee”.  I had concerns about an issue that all of us operators worry about, “slip and falls”.  I had gotten a PA, due to someone getting up on my bus to ring a bell, I had to make a hard stop and the person fell.  I got blamed by 9 or so people, including trainers.  When the so called “Safety Committee” was formed to take operator suggestions, I jumped at the chance to put pressure on them, to address the #2 safety issue “we” have (passengers getting up while the bus is in motion), here where my suggestions on how to deal with this:

Trimet operator ruins bathroom

Joy of Laundry is a small business in North
Portland at the end of lines 4 and 44. To express his appreciation for TriMet’s service and
operators’ hard work, the owner makes his restroom available to operators on layover. Last
month, this small business owner had to pay a big plumbing bill because a TriMet employee
apparently used the restroom when it was marked “out of order.” What had been a broken
water main became an even messier problem. This unfortunate story is a reminder that the
familiar rules really do matter:
• Don’t flush what shouldn’t be flushed
• Don’t use a restroom labeled “out of order”
• Don’t give access to non-TriMet personnel
• Leave no trace—no litter, graffiti, spills, etc.
In other words, treat layover facilities as you would your own property—or better! Thanks for
doing your part to keep these facilities available.

It is legal for petitioners to ride Trimet

Petition gathering on board
Initiative supporters have until July 6 to collect signatures to qualify statewide measures for the
November ballot. Thus, we expect paid signature gatherers and others to target transit, particularly
during Rose Festival and other large events.
Federal and state law permits individuals to canvas for signatures on TriMet property so long as the
effort does not interfere with our transit operations or create a risk of safety. If the activity does block
boarding or deboarding of the vehicles, restricts the free movement of passengers in or about the
stations or stops, or otherwise constitutes a safety hazard, you may request that the activity be
stopped. If you have concerns about the conduct of signature gatherers, contact a supervisor, or call
Dispatch or Control to send someone out to
investigate the behavior.

Memories of an ex bus driver

One of the more interesting events on my bus was when I was driving the 8.
I was at the hospital heading back and a man got on the bus in a hospital gown and he had blood dried up on his arms.
He obviously had just escaped from the hospital.
He got on and sat down, of course no fare was paid.
I didn't say a thing. I just let him ride, I never removed a passenger over fare or got into a dispute with a passenger over fare.
I took him where he wanted to go which was somewhere off 15th Avenue.
He never said a word to me, coming or going.
I can still see the man like it was yesterday.

Rider falls onto operator

Real Trimet supervisory reports:
Operator stated that the passenger boarded at 15th and Fremont going south, passenger chose not to sit down and was standing. As the bus pulled away from the service stop the passenger lost her balance and fell into the stanchion bar and fell on  an off duty bus operator. Operator said he and others asked if she was okay and she repeatedly stated she was fine, However as the bus pulled into 5th and Davis NW. passenger started complaining of pain in her left shoulder and arm was tingling, at that point dispatch was notified and medical was called. Passenger was transported by AMR 335 to good samaritan.

Supervisor hurts herself

Real Trimet supervisory reports:
I responded to bus to remove intoxicated sleeper from the bus as he appeared to be without a destination.  Operator had been unable to arouse  him.  Initially he failed to respond to me attempts to wake him up.  After several attempts I nudged his foot with my foot and he came up screaming at me.  He was in my face and very threatening.  I immediately called for police assistance and ordered him off the bus.  He spat at my feet in an attempt to intimidate me.  After several requests to deboard he did so.  As he was walking away from the bus, he crawled into my vehicle in an attempt to steal something from the car.  I commanded him to exit the car but was unclear if he had retrieved anything.  I followed him at a distance of 1 1/2 blocks opposite side of street to maintain his location for police.  Police responded but were unable to locate him.

As I was leaving the garage and heading home, I felt extreme pain and stiffness in my right knee.  I apparently twisted it as I deboarded bus.  Injury reported 9/7 to

Real Trimet supervisory reports

I was asked to respond due to a report of cell phone use while driving. Met Operator XX at 82d/Powell. She denied using cell phone which is on silent and in her purse. I actually reviewed her recent call list and there was no call at that time. Only calls were 3:27p before her shift starts and a missed call at 5:39. She stated that passenger was upset with her over something unrelated and that is what may have generated complaint. I discussed with her the serious nature of using her cell phone and she is in complete agreement and is not taking calls while operating the bus.

"Have fun doing that"

Operator observed smoking at door of bus at Tigard TC.  I approached the operator to confirm that he was smoking.  He cupped his cigarette in the palm of his hand to conceal it from me.  I asked him if he was smoking and he admitted it.  I advised that he knew the rules and that passengers are being cited and fined $175 for smoking.  He started to walk away from me and I asked him to come over to discuss it with me.  He never did put the cigarette out.  I advised him that I was going to write him up.  His response "You have fun doing that" and walked away.

TriMet changing video-recording policy after complaints about blogging driver

TriMet says it will change its policy for bus drivers and MAX operators who operate transit-related blogs, prohibiting them from
recording videos while on the job.
The latest restriction to TriMet's ever-evolving policy for operators who blog comes after a week of back-and-forth between driver Al
Margulies and readers of the Bike Portland blog over a video that he filmed while driving a bus.

No embracing allowed

 Real Trimet supervisory reports
Training Supervisor observed operator embracing a passenger on his deadhead.  I was asked to confirm whether or not operator had friends or family on his bus with him.  I observed 2 persons on bus with operator on his deadhead at W Burnside and SW 2nd Ave.  I met with operator at 5th/Morrison.  He confirmed that wife and daughter had been on his bus but they deboarded in the CBD to shop.  I reinstructed operator regarding expectations.

My thoughts on Heitzman/Hunt ticket

I pretty much have the same issues that everybody else has about the Hienzman/Hunt ticket.
But I do have to defend the both of them on one respect, THEY HAVE GOTTEN US A PRETTY DECENT CONTRACT up to now.
And if they win the arbitration, then they have proven to have outfoxed the Trimet management.
That is not something to be ashamed of, that is a big deal.

Trimet sets record

An astonishing number of part time operators were made full time during the last round-30 part timers were moved to full time, a new record

Trimet screwed itself

Remember a couple years back when Mcfarlane tried to instill panic among the troops?
There was a hiring freeze and voluntary leaves?
During that period people were retiring, getting fired, and quitting.
Now they are on a hiring binge and they can't quite catch up!
So what changed so drastically in those last 2 years?
Or was it all a bluff to scare the union employees and now they beg to get operators to fill runs?
There was never any explanation on why such a drastic turn of events.

Thursday, May 24, 2012

After the altercation with Bike Portland and the Marcus Griffith dispute that lead to several manufactured complaints (rumor has it that all the phony complaints were written  by Mr Griffith) I began audio taping my entire day at Trimet.

Every single conversation that I had with with everyone during my work shift is in a library of audio tapes in my possession.

Towards the end of my employment I was called into the office for 'not calling stops' and given a warning.
It was said on the "Stalinist" report that I called NO STOPS.
(Trimet has adopted the techniques of Josef Stalin by using First Transit 'spies' that masquerade as passengers and make anonymous complaints that were taken as gospel that drivers could not see or dispute)

I checked that days tape and could prove it was a lie.

Of course Trimet rules prohibited drivers from audio or video recording riders/drivers without their express permission. (Trimet records everything without permission)
So I couldn't roll out my evidence to prove my innocence. I got the hint though, the management had gone to the length of manufacturing bogus complaints on me, which means they wanted me out.
Hence on my 58th birthday I obliged them.

I didn't go to their parties or participate in their little events because I knew they were phony.
They didn't like me and I didn't like them. The management has turned unethical since Mcfarlane (thinking he is the "new sheriff in town") took over the operation.

The only good thing about working at Trimet from my point of view, if you can actually take the abuse for 10 years or more, you can make some money and get a small pension with benefits. (for now)

I would recommend to any Trimet employee working directly with the public to take steps to protect themselves since the company refuses to to do anything to protect their employees.

The  irony of my resignation, I was one of the best operators they had. Stellar safety record and almost no complaints and none about me personally.

I listen to the dispatch channel on my scanner now and can really see how good I really was.

As in most organizations with incompetent management,  they tend to chase the competent employees right out of their organizations.
