Mcfarlane addresses the board on the strike

HERE!

Michael Anderson responds to Trimet budget presentation

WHO'S GONNA PAY?

I had an interesting talk with Jeff Ackerson this afternoon who informed me of the sad state of affairs surrounding our grievance/arbitration process.
From what I was hearing it appears that each one of these arbitrations between management and employees gets very costly, so costly that the union may be in the red up to $1,000,000 when its all accounted for. So the next question is who's gonna pony up for that?
I bet ya its the members that will have to pay for it.
In any event  the candidates for ATU president need to start addressing this issue!

Mchuff knows everything

For example today he informed me that I had not followed the HR policy regarding retirement procedure. (since when do i follow hr stuff?)
Of course I had no idea what he was talking about so he proceeded to show me the HR section which specified that I was to give the station manager 60 days notice of retirement.
I didn't have a clue about that, I just went straight to the woman who does the retirements Windy Graham, who proceeded to basically handle the entire thing for me.
He also informed me that by not going through the procedure I had forfeited a $200 gift certificate from Freddies.
They should donate that to the rescue mission for me if that is indeed true.
I also could have gotten a clock, oh well, I got 1,000+ live video to which I can remember my times at trimet.

HOW WE COULD WIN A STRIKE-IN 1-2 DAYS

All that needs to happen is for the LIGHT RAIL/STREET CAR operators walk off the job and the strike would be over that quickly.

One day of no light rail would send this city into massive convulsions to which they would immediately succumb.

My Nomination for Warrior of the Month

This week,I relieve Bud Erland's #15 at 82nd and Stark @ 1:38pm.As you can see,he is a big Red Sox fan. What is incredible is that he walks from his house everyday to catch the 1st southbound Greenline train to 98th and Powell Blvd for his 5:28am sign in.That means that he is out of his Mt.Tabor home at 4am for his walk to the Division Street rail platform which takes a little under an hour.

"Passenger answers the radio"

Real incident reports from Trimet supervisors
I received a call from Dispatch to go and see 1434 which was stopped at the first stop on the Hawthorne bridge west bound. They were concerned that a passenger had answered the radio and told them the operator was helping the passengers exit through one of the emergency windows.    I arrived at 5:53pm and talked with the operator.  What had happened was the doors wouldn't open to let a passenger exit.  She tried pushing on the doors to no avail.  She then left the bus to do a battery reset which didn't help plus now she finds herself locked outside of the bus with all of her passengers inside. One of the passengers opened the emergency window and they all started climbing out the window.  The operator was holding the window and helping people out making sure no one got hurt.  That is when one of the passengers answered the radio.  With everyone off the bus the driver climbed into the bus and called Dispatch.  Dispatch told her to try the butterfly button which she did and it fixed the problem.
The operator finished her shift and was told to see her station manager before  her next shift.

"Get out of my face"

Real incident reports from Trimet drivers
The incident was reported as an antifreeze spill blocking the intersection of SW Greenburg Rd and SW Main ST in Tigard @ Pacific Hwy, a 6-lane arterial. When I arrived at 1:35, I found the bus on Main St blocking 1 lane of travel at a bus stop not an intersection; no 4-way flashers, no triangles, no garbage can to contain the spill. He was sitting in the shelter eating. I instructed the driver that it is his responsibility to relay accurate information to dispatch and to implement proper/appropriate safety protocol which he failed to do.  He responded with "Get out of my face.  I don't want to talk to you"

Mcfarlanes gambit

Ignorance and greed, Mcfarlane's greatest ally.
Most TriMet driver's know very little about LIFT drivers and virtually nothing about the issues affecting them that will ultimately affect themselves.
Trimet has all of its workforce working like dogs but making pretty good money in the process.
My personal opinion is that Mcfarlane is playing a gambit that he thinks he will win if he sees it through.
The lack of solidarity at TriMet is pretty obvious, there are even anti union employees who belong to the union.
I've said it a thousand times, don't ever underestimate the executive management, these are highly intelligent very skilled people.
I am sure they have investigated all the potential outcomes.
Mcfarlane has the support of his board and the governor, those are the people he answers too, nobody else.
He suspects that most operators don't really care about any of it.
He's probably right, I hate to admit that, but that is what I see after years of watching Trimet employees and managers.

STRIKE IS OVER?

WHAT DO FIRST TRANSIT DRIVERS FACE?

First Transit underbid MV 2 MILLION dollars to get Reg 1's contract away from them (MV). When MV had Reg 1, they didn't have the problems that have arisen since First transit took over for them. The driver's had decent health coverage w/out paying out the ass for it like they do now.
My wife's CO-PAY for a dr visit is $277.00!! That is the co-pay with First Transit's insurance that they offer. While fixed route driver's have one of the best health care packages in the country, para-transit drivers do not get the benefits of the same union, let alone their employer. So, I do blame first transit for some of this. The union doesn't have to take care of the drivers like they do their own because it is SUB-CONTRACTED out to another company. Sorry, but no one should be paying $277 for a damn co-pay for a dr. visit. We sure cannot afford it, could you?

TriMet elderly and disabled transit operators on strike
Bus operators who operate the elderly and disabled transportation service for TriMet in Multnomah and Washington Counties went on strike this morning after negotiations and mediation that began in February 2010 failed to produce a new agreement. The operators, who are employed by the foreign company First Transit, Inc. under contract with TriMet, are represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757. Pickets start going up this morning at the TriMet administration building located at 4012 SE 17th Avenue, Portland.

Michael Levine on the lift problems

TriMet once again discriminates by actions against people with disabilities...
TriMet is in violation of the ADA on several fronts. First, the ADA is clear that paratransit rides cannot be prioritized; fact the ADA is clear that TriMet cannot even ask the purpose of a ride, thus the prioritizing TriMet is doing is in conflict with two guidelines not meeting the minimum standard of the ADA.

TRIMET LIFT ON STRIKE! MCFARLANE GETS WHAT HE WANTS FOR ALL OF TRIMET

“The general manager of TriMet can stop all of this,” Hunt said in a phone interview from a picket line in front of the agency's Southeast Portland headquarters. “But he has decided to withhold service from the most vulnerable rather than going to arbitration to deal with these issues.”
