Intermittent utility work on Center St begins 6/23/12
Posted by Jessica Bucciarelli at Jun 22, 2012 04:05 PM | Permalink
Starting June 23 and lasting for about a month, private utility crews will be working on SE Center St between the Brooklyn Yard (east of TriMet's Center St facility) and Milwaukie Ave. Northbound lines 17 and 70 will continue to use Center St. There will be intermittent lane closures. Pedestrian access and access to the parking lot will be maintained. Watch for flaggers.

SUPERVISORY REPORTS

McFührer

On Wednesday, June 13, the TriMet Board adopted our budget for next year – and the vote was unanimous. The Board heard testimony from 52 people, mostly organized by the group OPAL. The Board’s actions balanced the budget – eliminating the projected $12 million/year gap. You all have heard me say – and I repeat here – that another $5 million in possible service reductions or fares will be required if TriMet management loses the ATU 757 arbitration. We’ll face that as necessary after July 31st – when we expect the arbitrator’s decision.

Leverage filming at TriMet

Leverage, a popular cable TV show filmed in Portland, recently filmed scenes for an upcoming episode in the LRV paint room at Ruby Junction and at the Washington Park MAX Station. A lot of TriMet employees were involved in the planning and facilitation of the filming, and Leverage will be reimbursing TriMet for the their time and the use of our facilities.

Get out your VERIFICATION documents-trimet coming at ya

Maybe we will need to prove proof of citizenship too:
TriMet is conducting an audit to ensure that only those that are eligible, are receiving TriMet’s health benefits. The eligibility audit began this spring with an amnesty phase that concluded May 18. All ineligible dependents that were reported during this phase have been removed from our health care plans. The audit period, where you will need to verify the eligibility of all the dependents remaining on your TriMet health care plan is beginning. This means you will have to supply documentation, like tax returns, marriage and/or birth certificates, for each of your eligible dependents by Aug. 3, 2012. On or around June 30, you will receive a list of acceptable documents and step by step procedures in the mail.  Dependent Eligibility Audit

Miracle at Sunset Transit Center

A few months ago,I posted a video of the deplorable conditions at the STC.
It appears the work is finally proceeding for drywall repair, paint and
linoleum replacement.

I confess

When I was an operator at Trimet I held the dispatchers in pretty slim regard.
As a matter of fact I did everything possible to avoid contacting them at all.
Some of them were pretty pushy when I did end up having to talk to them.

But now that I don't work there anymore, and have really starting listening to the scanner regularly, I got to hand to to em.
They do a pretty damn good job, really.
(I don't know how they can handle it hour after hour, it would drive me INSANE)

Now they are redesigning the public website, when it comes to technology nobody will leave anything alone.

  1. First, take a look at the new website prototype here.
  2. Then, send your comments and suggestions to newdesign@trimet.org. Was it easy to use? Did you experience any problems? What could make it better? If you're reporting a problem, please let us know which computer/device and web browser you're using.

POWER OF THE INTERNET UNLEASHED IN THE CASE OF THE BULLIED BUS MONITOR

But the exposure has had a darker side, too: thousands of furious and sometimes threatening e-mails directed at Richardson and other officials in the Greece Central School District and the town of Greece and death threats and other harassment directed at students alleged to have participated in the incident.
"We are obviously as emotional as everyone else who has watched this horrible and disturbing video," said Barbara Deane-Williams, superintendent of Greece schools. "As a mom, I can assure you, however, that the enraged response directed at these students and my staff is equally as unsettling. Expressing hatred is not an effective way to resolve this."
The names of some of the alleged perpetrators — all juveniles who have yet to be charged with any crimes — and their parents and details about where they live ended up online. And since Wednesday, they've been barraged by death threats and harassing phone calls.

OPAL getting ready to change tactics

The $458 million budget for 2013 passed by the TriMet board of directors June 13 largely brushed aside an alternative budget from riders’ advocacy group OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon. OPAL president Jonathan Ostar says his organization will push for greater accountability by taking away the governor’s authority to appoint TriMet board members. Ostar says Metro, with its regionally elected council, should have that authority instead. Such a change would require an act of the Legislature. TriMet’s new budget raises fares, cuts services and ends the free rail zone Sept. 1. “I think there were some board members that came in with their minds made up, just ready to mail it in,” Ostar says....

McFührer's tricks

Having watch McFüher since the day he got here, I am pretty sure he is setting up a major showdown with the unionized employees.

For example he is well aware that more 1/2 the bus drivers are new, less than 5 years. I would imagine that all these new drivers are "happy to have a job" with decent pay and whatever benefits he wants to give them. These newbies are not likely to shake the boat.

He has made the rest of us miserable for a reason, he wants all the seasoned employees out of here because he knows we won't put up with his nonsense.

This sets up a scenario where the majority of employees are all newbies who most likely will be to scared to strike.
McFührer then breaks the union and achieves the goal. He will be worshiped as a hero to the executive class

"The ends justify the means"

GIVE US BACK THE RIGHT TO STRIKE

Let the citizens of greater Portland see who is is that actually runs this transit system!

This is in preparation for the planned July 1 demolition of the
building in conjunction with PMLR construction along 17th Avenue.

Beginning June 14, the Advantis building and conference room will no
longer be available. Staff who use the building for meetings and
trainings have been advised to make alternate arrangements.

Between when the space is no longer available and the proposed
demolition date, there are some items that will be removed and some
asbestos safety precautions that will take place. The Portland Fire
Department will also be conducting some emergency training in the
space.

Jim Howell says Trimet is doing it all wrong

This man (former Trimet employee) has been studying transit issues in Portland since the 1970's

Tom Horton's comment on the union election

Let me be clear: The margin of President-Elect Hansen's victory over former incumbent Heintzman was all of 242 votes. Many of us have identified Mr. Heintzman as perpetuating the exclusive and secretive culture of our union's leadership history. Mr. Heintzman is responsible for gerrymandering our local and wasting the majority votes of my TriMet brothers and sisters.
I entered this race very late compared to President-Elect Hansen's announcement last fall. Since February 14th, I was able to raise a few hundred dollars and still fewer volunteers. My campaign simply ran out of funds. Once Ron Heintzman entered the competition on Nomination Day, my position became clear--split the votes, or be the "spoiler" for either one or the other.
I will contend that President-Elect Hansen won his narrow victory because of the positions he and I share about the established incumbency created by Former President Heintzman. I got, "Clobbered," NOT because of the ideals an principles I espoused in my campaign, but rather for want of funding and organization.
If I had elected to spend my own money on campaign posters, buttons, and junk mailings, like many candidates did, President-Elect Hansen's supporters would be calling me more names than just, "SPOILER!"
