I wonder if this is the same incident as the one I recorded allegedly on the MAX? But that one happened on 60th?)

Portland Police Investigating a Disturbance Involving a Gun at the 82nd Transit Station - MAX Platform

News Release from: Portland Police Bureau
PORTLAND POLICE INVESTIGATING A DISTURBANCE INVOLVING A GUN AT THE 82ND TRANSIT STATION - MAX PLATFORM
Posted: December 20th, 2012 10:20 PM

On Thursday December 20, 2012, at 7:59 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct as well as the Transit Police Division responded to the report of a disturbance on the MAX platform at the 82nd Avenue Transit Station involving a possible gunshot.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted witnesses who described a disturbance between two young men and that one of them fired at least one shot from a handgun.

Witnesses described the suspect with the gun as a Hispanic or Asian male, 15-17 years old, medium build, wearing a black baseball cap, a black bandana, a black and gray jacket, and a black backpack.

The suspect ran from the platform northbound on 82nd Avenue.

There were no injuries or property damage located and this case remains under investigation.

WOW-the charts change, JUST LIKE THAT?

I proved in a previous post that the actual vs the budgeted was always higher.
Well glory be, all of a sudden the figures for the 2013 actual vs budgeted have switched!
It still shows a $1 million dollar deficit instead of the $15 million dollar surplus that was seen previously

Trimet wouldn't lie to us, would they?

Let's see, last month was the month the car went onto the tracks at Sunset TC.
Yet Trimet claims a 'huge' increase in on time performance, just slightly better than bus on time, which is also quite unbelievable.

The trouble with lying and deceiving is that their efficiency depends entirely upon a clear notion of the truth that the liar and deceiver wishes to hide.

TRIMET SCANNER GETS NEW FIGURE HEAD

I was starting to feel bad for Mary Fetsch so I convinced my partners to pick a more suitable figure head for the scanner account.

What better figure head than the useless Harry Sapporta, who created the original safety program that was deemed a failure.

Remember how Harry's hiring happened.
Mcfarlane needed a loyal crony to get David Sale and Darla Sturdy off his back so he 'called me up in south America and said "harry how would you like to make 155k"'?

Harry said 'HELL YA NEIL'  I'll be your loyal crony since you knew me from the old days and the rest is history...
See Mr Mcfarlane only wants to play with toy trains so he hired all the other functions of the general manager out to other people, people he could trust to do his dirty work!
They all make fortunes while he whines about the union health care costs, the man has no sense of decency, he is a true slug

What's with the boxes on top of the buses?

We don't know the exact figure that Trimet spent to equip their buses with these Opticoms. But we do know one thing-they don't work!

CLASSIC TWEETS

Seattle mocks Portland transit

A favorite pastime among the mobile “creative class” in Seattle is complaining that our transportation systems are inferior to those in Vancouver, B.C., and Portland.
But recent news from the neighbors reveals them as anything but nirvana.
* Transit use in metro Portland dropped 1.1 percent in September to November 2012 compared to a year earlier, even as national transit use grew 2.6 percent.  The Rose City has struggled with labor strife and service cuts, as detailed here by Oregonian columnist Joseph Rose.  One result was MAX light-rail use dropped in Portland (which ended its downtown free-rail zone) while bus use grew.  Meanwhile in Seattle, King County Metro gained 1.7 percent and carried 400,440 average weekday passengers in October compared to a year earlier, despite eliminating the downtown free-bus zone Sept. 29. Sound Transit gained 19 percent year-over-year, serving 100,935 weekday riders for bus and rail combined.

Just love reading Mcfarlanes lies all over the internet

"We had to make tough budget choices to cut service and raise fares to offset health care costs required by our union contract, and despite those changes, ridership figures demonstrate how important transit is to our region," said General Manager Neil McFarlane.

Union Puzzled Over TriMet Management's Contradictory Actions

(Or Trimet management continues being full of shit!)
The legal dispute between TriMet and the transit workers’ union over public access to negotiations remains undecided. “Last week, our attorneys conferred on how to get this question resolved quickly,” said Bruce Hansen, the Union’s president. That dispute centers around TriMet’s insistence that rider advocates, the press and the public be barred from the negotiations.
What puzzles the Union is why, when the parties’ attorneys are working together to get a quick resolution of this dispute, TriMet’s labor relations executive director, Randy Stedman, and general manager, Neil McFarlane, continue to insist on going forward with negotiations only if the  Union will accept terms that violate state law.
“Another puzzler for us,” says union president Bruce Hansen, “is why the TriMet bargaining team intends to show up for negotiation sessions that they effectively have cancelled.” He notes that the Union has repeatedly given advance notice that it cannot accept the conditions TriMet management has placed on bargaining.

Gillig Hybrid at the garage

From RiderInsider -

Sneak peek: Four new hybrid buses are joining the fleet

Of the 55 brand-new buses we purchased this year, four are next-generation hybrid-electric vehicles. After making the trek from the Gillig bus factory in Hayward, California, the new hybrids are now on site, and our crews are preparing them to go into service. After the buses hit the road in January, we'll be testing them for fuel efficiency and maintenance needs. This year, we began replacing our oldest buses, which are not only uncomfortable for riders and operators, they are unreliable and expensive for us to maintain.

THE TRIMET SYSTEM-DEC 16, 2012

Another happy TRIMET couple

Ira on left been there 9 years, new gal on right been there 1 year
Two shaggers in love! And they love Trimet. Trimet has three separate entities, its like working for three completely different companies. Drivers, maintenance, and office. There is no overlap between any of the three. Apparently they have some sort of meeting after a year where all the new employees get together from the three divisions that have worked at Trimet to provide feedback or something. Trimet is doing a very good job with the brainwashing of its new employees. We can forget any solidarity from any of these new employees.

Finally got on one of the new trimet buses

Finally got to ride on the new Trimet bus. Here are my observations.
Does have a strong plastic smell+too bright inside. Readable head sign
The configuration is somewhat different but it appeared to be just another bus. Driver did a good job calling stops even announced how late she was leaving the time point downtown.Have no idea what its like to drive one of these but some operators are pretty disappointed.

A driver writes

After finishing my run at BTC last week I was standing on the Max platform waiting for my train . I noticed a line of people by the ticket machine , the machine was broken and people were upset . I told them they could go to the buses and buy tickets from the drivers ! You could make a suggestion to Trimet to hang a sign on each machine ," Machine broken see bus driver for tickets !". One last thing , the ticket machine had no ID numbers on the top , they were removed . I guess this is so you cant call dispatch and tell them the machine # ?

TRIMET MANAGERS IN BIG MUSICAL CHAIRS CONTEST

On January 11, hundreds of staff will move from Holladay St and the top 3 floors of Center St to Harrison Square, our new leased space on SW 1st and Harrison. On January 25, many more will move from Center to Holladay St, their temporary home while Center is being remodeled into our operations headquarters. If you're moving, this means you're busy Preparing-PURGING-Packing. If you're not, what you need to know is that departments may not be where you're used to finding them. For example, HR and Payroll will be at Harrison Square, and Help Desk will be at Holladay St. Most phone numbers are unchanged. In general, Operations personnel will be at Holladay St, and all other divisions at Harrison Square. For details, visit the PMLR/Moving Together section of TriNET.

TRIMET MANAGERS YOU ARE SO PATHETIC

New TRIMET logo
Although  the constant drum beat of 'it's all the union employees fault' 'its all the union employees fault' continues unabated, it appears that the public has grown weary of the same old nonsense being spewed endlessly at them. I've been watching the comments on the various sites and Trimet executives are just making themselves look like the petty buck passing fools that they are.

Even the hardest  core anti union ideologues are tiring of Trimet's dumb message.
People know that Trimet is screwed up, and they know its not just the unions fault.
The public has a sense that Trimet management, once again, is attempting to pull the wool over their eyes.

Management failures cannot be passed along so easily. In the real world all the executives at Trimet would have been sent packing long ago.
Service that is crumbling, riders that are disgusted, buses and trains that don't show up.
But this is government, and we all know that trying to get rid of an established governmental bureaucracy is virtually impossible.

The bottom line is the public is aware that the transit agency in Portland is run by a den of fools.
Can't hide it forever Mcfarlane. Take your fat pension and the millions of dollars you have already made off the backs of the public and go away.
And in answer to the question, Mr Mcfarlane has lost all sense of decency, his ethics are completely gone.

SP RED ELECTRIC ON TRIMET'S QUARTERLY REPORTS

WES commuter rail, meanwhile, saw a nearly 9 percent jump in ridership with 112,740 boardings and deboardings. Still, that averaged out to only 1,780 daily trips for the rush-hour service in Washington County.

Yet after THREE years of operation, WES is still far below the 2,500 daily rides that were expected after just one year of operation, and was promised to be a 'very conservative' estimate.

TriMet is shifting from monthly ridership reports to quarterly numbers to "get a broader view" of trends, Fetsch said

Because TriMet is forced to acknowledge bus ridership is up, MAX is down, and TriMet wants to control the message as best as possible even when the facts fly in the face of what TriMet wants to promulgate (the "success" of rail transit, and that people choose not to ride buses).

This is another disappointing report from TriMet - where TriMet believes it has to depend on massively expensive rail projects, but total ridership is down while transit agencies nationwide are reporting higher and higher ridership. TriMet is barely hanging on to the ridership it has, as many long-time riders have given up on the system. In fact, much of the success of bicycling in our region directly comes from people who no longer ride TriMet, while auto use is constant.

BUS WINS AGAIN

BUS- Quarterly trips were up 2.9 percent to 15,350,500
MAX-Quarterly trips were down 7 percent to 9,662,600

Trimet continues fighting below the belt

These A-Holes have moved to quarterly statistical reporting, an obvious attempt to dilute their lousy statistical reports

The rats the run Trimet actually put into the statistics this month the following: "The shortfall was mostly driven by unsustainable union health care benefits."

What is that doing on the statistical report? It shouldn't even be there!
This is a vicious propaganda campaign that is going on  in order to influence public opinion.
Hopefully the union has figured out some way to challenge this because my blog sure the hell does not have the reach to make any significant impact to public opinion. I know I make a difference, but it is a tiny difference.

It is interesting indeed that even after winning the initial arbitration the company continues to spew THE EXACT SAME PROPAGANDA!

What are they saying? The first arbitration victory resulted in ZERO savings?

The hiring continues unabated, the expansion continues unabated, and Trimet continues taking on debt like there is no tomorrow. Yet they spew the same propaganda over and over. If only the union would give in, everything would be fine. It's complete lie

I've said it over and over, as long as Trimet and its corporate media stooges dominate the conversation we will look bad in the eyes of the public

"Given the history of Metra, I think we want to make everything clear . . . give the board oversight and control," Mr. O'Halloran said. "My goal is to make this agency as transparent as possible."
Under current policy, the executive director informs the board of whom he's hired and what compensation and other perks they're receiving. That means the board "really has no input," Mr. O'Halloran said.
Under the new proposal, the board would review all proposed personnel decisions first, voting on them in a package at each monthly board meeting, Mr. O'Halloran said. "Everything" will be put on the Internet, as has been the case in Orland Park, where he is a village trustee, Mr. O'Halloran said.

TRIMET MGMT IS SO FULL OF SHIT

TriMet Tells Court Its Bargaining Team Has No Authority to Bargain

In a stunning statement to Multnomah County Circuit Court, TriMet claimed its bargaining team had no authority to reach agreement on a tentative contract that it will submit to the TriMet Board for approval.

In recent days, the Union showed TriMet that the Attorney General’s Manual clearly established that TriMet’s negotiating team was governed by Oregon’s public meetings law. This is because the bargaining team’s job is to reach a tentative agreement it then submits to the TriMet Board for approval. This process means that the negotiations have to be open to the public.

Yesterday, the Union received a copy of TriMet’s filing to the Multnomah Circuit Court. In that filing, TriMet claims only the general manager can give a recommendation to TriMet’s Board.

“The intent of the law governing collective bargaining is to have the two parties sit down and reach an agreement that both promise to take back to their respective governing bodies for ratification,” says Bruce Hansen, the president of the transit workers union. “In this statement to the Court, TriMet’s upper management is straddling two horses going in opposite directions. They’re telling the Union that TriMet’s bargaining team has authority to reach a tentative agreement at the same time they’re telling the Court that it doesn’t. Bottom line, TriMet’s statement to the Court means the Union must bargain with the general manager and/or Board of Directors directly.”
