TRIMET WON'T EVEN LET UP ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Are they unbelievable or what?

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS

Some people call me a 'bitter employee'. Nothing is further from the truth. I am very PRO TRIMET and knew many great people when working there. It turned into one of the most profound experiences of my life, and that is not an exaggeration. This parting video below shows how much I really did actually enjoy the people of Trimet.

Mary Fetsch and Roberta Altstadt: Here's a new job JUST FOR YOU!

'Brave soul' needed to become Michael O'Leary’s spin doctor at Ryanair (and even he admits it is 'the worst job in PR')

Ryanair's loose-cannon boss Michael O'Leary is looking for a 'brave soul' to become his new spin doctor and take on what he calls the 'worst job in PR'.
The outspoken Irishman is well known for using madcap schemes to chase publicity and his current Director of Communications Stephen McNamara is leaving after 'four years of being battered and abused'.
There is an upside, however, as Mr O'Leary says the successful candidate will be 'high profile and incredibly overpaid'.
But the new man or woman faces an uphill struggle as consumer champions Which? have just named Ryanair the least-popular short-haul airline based on baggage allowance, boarding, seating allocation and food and drink.

In other words, working for a transport company that's just as bad as TriMet, but at least you get the luxury of living in Ireland, free flight privileges anywhere in Europe, "incredibly overpaid", and you don't have to worry about transit tweeters like me (there are an incredible number of Ryanair bashers in Europe, but it's OK to use the official Twitter account to blame the rider, ridicule them, even cuss at them, and just plain make fun of them.)

TRIMET SUPERVISOR TRIES TO SEIZE ALEX'S PERSONAL PROPERTY

Those of us familiar with the inner working of Trimet know there is no shortage of ego maniac stupid people in positions of authority at Trimet. It turned out that they didn't seize anything after checking out the situation but I'm somewhat shocked at the supervisor involved in this incident. I always knew that supervisor to be very cautious when playing 'big man on campus'

SAFETY ON TRIMET HAS NOT IMPROVED

MORE MAX BREAKDOWNS TODAY

Incident #2
Incident #1

And you say TriMet is supportive of buses...

A quick look over at TriMet's website finds this little jewel:

Now as we look at that last bullet point it reads:

By 1958 Portland's extensive rail transit system was gone, replaced by a floundering bus transit system fostered by the "Good Roads Movement."

Floundering?

Let's look up that word, shall we?  Courtesy of Google and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

floundering present participle of floun·der (Verb)

Verb
  1. Struggle or stagger helplessly or clumsily in water or mud: "he was floundering about in the shallow offshore waters".
  2. Struggle mentally; show or feel great confusion: "she floundered, not knowing quite what to say".

So, TriMet has decided that the 1950s/1960s era Rose City Transit buses were "struggling or staggering helplessly" or "strugging mentally", despite the fact many Portlanders actually have fond memories of the bus service provided by Rose City Transit.

And, never mind that this "History of Public Transit in Portland" (not "History of Trains") is awfully biased and only tells the history of streetcars and trolleys, but not the vast and rich history of bus service in Portland - including Portland's trolleybuses, or any of TriMet's own bus history.

And...this "history" is on a government paid for web server, hosted at www.trimet.org.  Not an advocacy group, but TriMet.  So it's clear TriMet is itself advocating for rail which is in direct conflict with its roles and duties as a government agency whose only mission is to serve the public in a fair, unbiased, and universal manner.

ON THIS DAY 3 YEARS AGO

Now that I have started this trip down memory lane I am becoming somewhat fascinated by it. Every single event that was going on at Trimet or about Trimet has been documented and cataloged by me. It's actually an amazing collection of material. This old material is no longer available publicly but I am bringing  it back now.

Q: I do not plan on quitting smoking when the smoking ban goes into effect –where do I go for my smoke break?
A: Anywhere smoking is legally allowed—most likely a public sidewalk at least 10 feet from an entrance, exit, window or air-intake vent. Oregon's Smokefree Workplace Law prohibits smoking in most public places and places of employment. Some people in this situation use a nicotine replacement product, such as gum or a lozenge. TRIMET HAS ALREADY LOST

Trimet's insistence on secrecy in the contract negotiations means they have something to hide.
The fact that they are fighting so hard to keep all of that from the public is tantamount to a defeat for them.
The system is rigged in their favor, so they may still 'win' in the end even though they lost in reality.
Take arbitrator GABBA'S decision. If you actually read it you would see for yourself that it was hardly a victory for Trimet.
He ruled in their favor strictly because he felt he had too. In the text of the ruling is page after page of scalding criticism of Trimet and its union policies. Trimet and its corporate stooges in the media only use the parts of the decision they want  and leave the rest out in order to influence public opinion.
But those of us who follow this stuff, know exactly the kind of people they are and how they do business.
They are the microcosm of a government that cares nothing about the citizens or employees and functions exclusively for private interest rewarding with huge salaries the stooges that call themselves executives for following orders.

Tell the public that if they go to a trimet ticket machine and the machine is broken , pull out a five dollar bill , stick it in the validator and validate the bill . Keep the bill with them the whole day as proof of payment . If a fare inspector stops them , they simply hand the validated five dollar bill to the inspector and tell them the machine was broken ! Plus they save the paper that never came out of the ticket machine !

Portland Police Investigating a Disturbance Involving a Gun at the 82nd Transit Station - MAX Platform

News Release from: Portland Police Bureau
PORTLAND POLICE INVESTIGATING A DISTURBANCE INVOLVING A GUN AT THE 82ND TRANSIT STATION - MAX PLATFORM
Posted: December 20th, 2012 10:20 PM

On Thursday December 20, 2012, at 7:59 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct as well as the Transit Police Division responded to the report of a disturbance on the MAX platform at the 82nd Avenue Transit Station involving a possible gunshot.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted witnesses who described a disturbance between two young men and that one of them fired at least one shot from a handgun.

Witnesses described the suspect with the gun as a Hispanic or Asian male, 15-17 years old, medium build, wearing a black baseball cap, a black bandana, a black and gray jacket, and a black backpack.

The suspect ran from the platform northbound on 82nd Avenue.

There were no injuries or property damage located and this case remains under investigation.

WOW-the charts change, JUST LIKE THAT?

I proved in a previous post that the actual vs the budgeted was always higher.
Well glory be, all of a sudden the figures for the 2013 actual vs budgeted have switched!
It still shows a $1 million dollar deficit instead of the $15 million dollar surplus that was seen previously

Trimet wouldn't lie to us, would they?

Let's see, last month was the month the car went onto the tracks at Sunset TC.
Yet Trimet claims a 'huge' increase in on time performance, just slightly better than bus on time, which is also quite unbelievable.

The trouble with lying and deceiving is that their efficiency depends entirely upon a clear notion of the truth that the liar and deceiver wishes to hide.

TRIMET SCANNER GETS NEW FIGURE HEAD

I was starting to feel bad for Mary Fetsch so I convinced my partners to pick a more suitable figure head for the scanner account.

What better figure head than the useless Harry Sapporta, who created the original safety program that was deemed a failure.

Remember how Harry's hiring happened.
Mcfarlane needed a loyal crony to get David Sale and Darla Sturdy off his back so he 'called me up in south America and said "harry how would you like to make 155k"'?

Harry said 'HELL YA NEIL'  I'll be your loyal crony since you knew me from the old days and the rest is history...
See Mr Mcfarlane only wants to play with toy trains so he hired all the other functions of the general manager out to other people, people he could trust to do his dirty work!
They all make fortunes while he whines about the union health care costs, the man has no sense of decency, he is a true slug

CLASSIC TWEETS

Seattle mocks Portland transit

A favorite pastime among the mobile “creative class” in Seattle is complaining that our transportation systems are inferior to those in Vancouver, B.C., and Portland.
But recent news from the neighbors reveals them as anything but nirvana.
* Transit use in metro Portland dropped 1.1 percent in September to November 2012 compared to a year earlier, even as national transit use grew 2.6 percent.  The Rose City has struggled with labor strife and service cuts, as detailed here by Oregonian columnist Joseph Rose.  One result was MAX light-rail use dropped in Portland (which ended its downtown free-rail zone) while bus use grew.  Meanwhile in Seattle, King County Metro gained 1.7 percent and carried 400,440 average weekday passengers in October compared to a year earlier, despite eliminating the downtown free-bus zone Sept. 29. Sound Transit gained 19 percent year-over-year, serving 100,935 weekday riders for bus and rail combined.

Union Puzzled Over TriMet Management's Contradictory Actions

(Or Trimet management continues being full of shit!)
The legal dispute between TriMet and the transit workers’ union over public access to negotiations remains undecided. “Last week, our attorneys conferred on how to get this question resolved quickly,” said Bruce Hansen, the Union’s president. That dispute centers around TriMet’s insistence that rider advocates, the press and the public be barred from the negotiations.
What puzzles the Union is why, when the parties’ attorneys are working together to get a quick resolution of this dispute, TriMet’s labor relations executive director, Randy Stedman, and general manager, Neil McFarlane, continue to insist on going forward with negotiations only if the  Union will accept terms that violate state law.
“Another puzzler for us,” says union president Bruce Hansen, “is why the TriMet bargaining team intends to show up for negotiation sessions that they effectively have cancelled.” He notes that the Union has repeatedly given advance notice that it cannot accept the conditions TriMet management has placed on bargaining.

Gillig Hybrid at the garage

From RiderInsider -

Sneak peek: Four new hybrid buses are joining the fleet

Of the 55 brand-new buses we purchased this year, four are next-generation hybrid-electric vehicles. After making the trek from the Gillig bus factory in Hayward, California, the new hybrids are now on site, and our crews are preparing them to go into service. After the buses hit the road in January, we'll be testing them for fuel efficiency and maintenance needs. This year, we began replacing our oldest buses, which are not only uncomfortable for riders and operators, they are unreliable and expensive for us to maintain.

THE TRIMET SYSTEM-DEC 16, 2012

Another happy TRIMET couple

Ira on left been there 9 years, new gal on right been there 1 year
Two shaggers in love! And they love Trimet. Trimet has three separate entities, its like working for three completely different companies. Drivers, maintenance, and office. There is no overlap between any of the three. Apparently they have some sort of meeting after a year where all the new employees get together from the three divisions that have worked at Trimet to provide feedback or something. Trimet is doing a very good job with the brainwashing of its new employees. We can forget any solidarity from any of these new employees.

Finally got on one of the new trimet buses

Finally got to ride on the new Trimet bus. Here are my observations.
Does have a strong plastic smell+too bright inside. Readable head sign
The configuration is somewhat different but it appeared to be just another bus. Driver did a good job calling stops even announced how late she was leaving the time point downtown.Have no idea what its like to drive one of these but some operators are pretty disappointed.

After finishing my run at BTC last week I was standing on the Max platform waiting for my train . I noticed a line of people by the ticket machine , the machine was broken and people were upset . I told them they could go to the buses and buy tickets from the drivers ! You could make a suggestion to Trimet to hang a sign on each machine ," Machine broken see bus driver for tickets !". One last thing , the ticket machine had no ID numbers on the top , they were removed . I guess this is so you cant call dispatch and tell them the machine # ?

TRIMET MANAGERS IN BIG MUSICAL CHAIRS CONTEST

On January 11, hundreds of staff will move from Holladay St and the top 3 floors of Center St to Harrison Square, our new leased space on SW 1st and Harrison. On January 25, many more will move from Center to Holladay St, their temporary home while Center is being remodeled into our operations headquarters. If you're moving, this means you're busy Preparing-PURGING-Packing. If you're not, what you need to know is that departments may not be where you're used to finding them. For example, HR and Payroll will be at Harrison Square, and Help Desk will be at Holladay St. Most phone numbers are unchanged. In general, Operations personnel will be at Holladay St, and all other divisions at Harrison Square. For details, visit the PMLR/Moving Together section of TriNET.

TRIMET MANAGERS YOU ARE SO PATHETIC

New TRIMET logo
Although  the constant drum beat of 'it's all the union employees fault' 'its all the union employees fault' continues unabated, it appears that the public has grown weary of the same old nonsense being spewed endlessly at them. I've been watching the comments on the various sites and Trimet executives are just making themselves look like the petty buck passing fools that they are.

Even the hardest  core anti union ideologues are tiring of Trimet's dumb message.
People know that Trimet is screwed up, and they know its not just the unions fault.
The public has a sense that Trimet management, once again, is attempting to pull the wool over their eyes.

Management failures cannot be passed along so easily. In the real world all the executives at Trimet would have been sent packing long ago.
Service that is crumbling, riders that are disgusted, buses and trains that don't show up.
But this is government, and we all know that trying to get rid of an established governmental bureaucracy is virtually impossible.

The bottom line is the public is aware that the transit agency in Portland is run by a den of fools.
Can't hide it forever Mcfarlane. Take your fat pension and the millions of dollars you have already made off the backs of the public and go away.
And in answer to the question, Mr Mcfarlane has lost all sense of decency, his ethics are completely gone.
