Construction update

Construction Update: 17th & Center

Posted by Jessica Bucciarelli at Dec 04, 2012 01:25 PM | Permalink
Issued 11/30/12; updated 12/6/12; covers impacts of sewer work on 17th (weekend of 12/7) and Center (most of December).

.

17th & Center: 1 lane this weekend

17th Ave needs to be narrowed to one lane at Center St for a weekend while while crews install a new sewer manhole in the middle of the intersection. This work is scheduled to start Friday evening, Dec. 7, and run 24 hours a day until Monday morning, Dec. 10. Watch for flaggers, expect delays and exercise caution at the intersection of 17th and Center this weekend. As always, schedules are subject to change—particularly due to weather.

Do you park in Lot B or C? Do you drive the 17 or 70?

Center between 17th and 16th: 1 lane, westbound only, for several weeks

The same sewer project will also narrow Center St to one lane, just west of 17th. Starting the weekend of Dec. 7 and for the next few weeks, expect delays and exercise caution when making the turn from 17th to Center.
  • TriMet testing shows that buses will be able to make this turn onto a one-way street, due to the intersection-widening that took place 11/29 on the SW corner.
  • The only way to enter Lot C (across from Transportation/Admin) will be by traveling north on 17th from Holgate (because we stay off neighborhood streets) and making a left on Center.
  • During this period, the NW corner of 17th and Center will be under construction. Access to the southbound bus stop will be preserved, but the place to cross Center will be midblock, not at the corner.

Your attention to safety
is making a difference!

Read those signs!

All of us at Center are working in an active construction environment. Efforts are made to notify us of what to expect, but construction activity is subject to change
—as anyone who’s remodeled a house knows. When you park, take a moment to check if the parking restrictions have changed. When you walk across the street, follow instructions from flaggers and construction signage, rather than following the same route you’ve followed for years.
