Respect is not a four letter word

Posted by Anonymous on Sat, Aug 16, 2014 at 5:15 PM

I started logging in here and see all the posts about tri-met. Now you see what we are up against. Welcome to my world. The level of service I provide as a bus operator (not a train driver, those guys cannot tie our shoes) you can see has a lot to do with high danger level against our physical safety. You try maneuvering such large vehicles in the traffic. It takes years to handle the heavier routes. We save people money, save gas and genrally run this town. That is why every time we say the word strike it gets the attention of the population. Respect is not a four letter word. Please have your transfer or pass out and ready for loading.

OMG. As a FORMER Trimet employee (bus, rail, supervisor), can I just say. GET REAL. Driving a bus was the EASIEST job I had for $75k a year! Climate controlled work space. Full benefits. The heaviest thing I had to lift was a pouch. Sitting on my ass all day. Quit your whining! Try laying asphalt outside in the sun when its 90 degrees for $15/hr. If you don't like your job, find one that you do like!!

Just curious if it was such a good job why are you not doing it anymore?

...isn't #2 being sarcastic?

John Flatpicker: I am not doing it anymore because I used my skills and experience that I gained at Trimet to advance my career. I am now in a supervisory capacity with the transporation division for the City of Portland. My 7 years at Trimet gave me valuable experience to better myself. I am grateful to Trimet for the opportunities they afforded me!

Also, to Anonymous: No where in my previous post do I say "Get a real job". I said "get real". Quit trying to change things around! Trimet is a real job. It's a good job. It's whiners like you that make for a stressful work environment.

Mass Transit Bullshit

This city is verging on the edge of insanity. At least San Francisco had the density and a well established transit system. What are we gonna do with hundreds of thousands of more people moving here when we can't even safeguard those already here: I live right on the Springwater Trail. There are vicious arguments between cyclists and drivers; cyclists going with no lights, no helmets, cutting across traffic. When I bicycle I try to stay out of the way of cars, and use crosswalks, and wait for it to be clear to cross busy lanes. This morning I just saw a guy in a tiny recumbent---probably no more than 18 inches off the ground, and we are supposed to see his tiny triangular flag? I don't think so! This is insanity. If certain people advocate for a bicycle oriented city, and also believe we can just pack in more and more people her, they ought to do something to encourage reasonable conduct. Maybe the stupid will get killed off---we'll see.

If you're making $94k driving a citybus then something is really wrong with the way transit is delivered around here

And I didn't find anything easy about working at Trimet.
No predictable work schedule, really late nights or really early mornings.

Then there was the public and the traffic. No it was not an easy job
