Another Banner morning for Portland Trimet commuters

I don't know about anybody else but I would sure be worried about Trimet adding another MAX line while the ones they are currently running are so damn unreliable. This is a serious issue which of course the mainstream media ignores.

For real, how is so complicated and difficult to comprehend that the MAX System is a waste of money? Who is going to pay for it as it ages? Let's petition a bill to stop building more until the current system is sustainable and basically pays for itself.

All those people walking on the bridge should contact the Executive Director of Maintenance Sam Marra at 962-5840 or email him at marras@trimet.org. Let him know he is not doing his job.

In all fairness, they weren't "forced" to walk.

There are numerous bus routes, plus bus shuttles.

It's just that TriMet has trained its MAX riders to basically ignore the fact that a bus system even exists in this city, so when MAX fucks up, people have no idea how to get around.

Think about it: Imagine if the entire Portland metro area ignored the street network and just had freeways. And when a crash happens on the freeway, people have no idea how to get around; nor do people consider using alternate routes, even if the alternate routes would be faster, quicker or shorter than the freeway.

That's exactly what MAX is.

What evidence do you have of that? I see operators making announcements and supervisors guiding riders to buses when trains are unable to continue. And both this and this service alert give bus alternatives for example. The problem is that encouraging everybody to use a parallel bus line would quickly overwhelm it.

As for those who walked, it's possible that the buses were all full seeing that the Steel Bridge is the peak loading point in the system or that they wanted to walk given the nice weather.
