BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION ALLIANCE URGES A NO VOTE ON STATE FUNDS FOR LIGHT RAIL
They strongly support the project, but urge a "no" an locking up a significant share of the "flexible funds" on that one project. They say that there are other ODOT "pockets" that would be a better fit.
Well they can't be that "strongly" supporting the project can they Max! They support the project as long as it doesn't cause them to lose any services. Lot's of people lose with Milwaukie, now it's also the bicyclists as well as the bus riders.
BTA does not endorse a "no" vote on this project. The letter simply states concerns about the use of the funds and asks the OTC for assurances if this tact is taken. Our letter to the OTC in no way says do not fund this project with these funds but raised many concerns with locking up a significant future funding for projects that has no guarantee of being there.

ReplyDeleteUh, Ok Rob, but I read it as this:
ReplyDelete"we support this project as long as us bicyclists don't lose anything"
It's an understandable position.
I have the same concerns, I support this project, but not at the cost of bus service.
Bus riders don't have any political clout like bicyclists do.
