DC METRO DRIVERS WIN BIG AGAINST THEIR MANAGEMENT!

Metro union workers to get pay raise soon

Metro’s union president said workers will likely receive pay raises by the end of September after a long fought battle.

Jackie Jeter, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689, said Monday she expects the transit agency to finish working out the details of a pay raise for workers in the coming weeks. Workers can expect to get the raise at the end of September, she said.
Local 689, which has about 10,000 members, had been in arbitration with Metro over a 9 percent wage increase for its members to be awarded in 3 percent increments for 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The dispute began in 2008 after Metro and the union reached an impasse on contract negotiations.
In November 2009, an arbitration board ruled on some issues for the union, but Metro appealed the decision. The case went before U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte.
Last month, Messitte concurred with the arbitration panel. Metro’s board voted earlier this month not to appeal his decision.
Metro has said it has nearly $100 million in reserves to pay for a wage increase for members of the union that represents most of the transit authority’s employees.
