TriMet Supervisor was sitting in their comfortable, air conditioned SUV (that was idling, and the Supervisor was just gabbing away on his cell phone) here at the Beaverton Transit Center this afternoon. TriMet riders get the luxury of that 1700 series Flxible Metro sitting in the background.
It is rather ironic isn't it.
ReplyDeleteWhy is there a 2 minute limit on bus idling yet these S.U.V's are allowed to idle all day? Idling for more than 10 seconds wastes more gas than turning your vehicle on and off in that time, and that is separate from the environmental and public health costs due to the excess emissions. Demand an idle-free TriMet and that TriMet be a leader in promoting an idle-free Portland!
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that the radios in the car will run down the battery and not allow the car to start, thus the idiling. They are also told to idle and lock the cars when overhead lights are on in order to not kill the battery. Why no heavy duty battery?
