Drivers texting/talking on cell phones back in the news

Seems this story is manufactured to me because the incidents are not well documented. It's still stupid of any driver that does do it. No sympathy from me

TriMet asks its drivers to put phones away | kgw.com Portland

PORTLAND – TriMet reminded its operators to put their personal electronic devices away Thursday after a Portland resident said they caught a TriMet driver texting and driving.

Pamela Chapel of Portland tweeted a photo that she says shows a TriMet driver texting on August 7.
According to TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstat, TriMet decided to take advantage the opportunity Thursday to remind its drivers operators to put down their phones while driving.

“When we see a photo tweeted that appears to show a TriMet bus operator texting, it’s a major concern for us,” said Roberta Altstadt, a spokeswoman for TriMet.

According to Altstadt, two operators were disciplined last year for using personal electronic devices while driving. Four operators have been disciplined this year so far.

TriMet operators are allowed to have cell phones with them when they’re working, but they are not supposed to use them when they’re in the driver’s seat of a bus or train, Altstadt said.
