It's really something that a couple of hobbyists that are generally scorned continually are able to provide the public more accurate information than the billion dollar agency that employs dozens of six figure executives.

(1) It is important to remember that, as a company, you want to not tell people the details until you know that they are the facts. This is why you usually wait to tell release details (i.e. why did the wheels fall off the MAX train>)

(2) It's not that hard to say, "There is a minor issue on the Yellow Line. We are working to resolve it. Stay tuned for more details about cause and delays." If the car is sitting on the tracks, there's likely to be a delay.
There is no excuse Patrick, to delay shows how little regard they have for their riders.

Reality means nothing to them
So..let's do a service alert THE INSTANT something is discovered but then on those occaisions where it took15 mminutes or less to fix it...OOPS folks! Never mind!
ReplyDeletePatrick is SPOT ON on both comments. You don't just jump in and send an alert before all of the facts come in. You can however, notify people that there is a car in the tracks at so and so location and to expect delays...

ReplyDeleteI agree with Al (& Patrick) - they should put out alerts immediately and then clarify as more information is available.
ReplyDeletePeople simply want to know: Am I waiting for a bus/train that isn't coming? It's frustrating that TriMet often knows the answer to that question, yet fails to communicate the message in a time efficient manner.

Agreed. Even that should be easy enough to be put out in between martinis and cigars...
