Trimet is late to this party
But like everything else it makes GREAT propaganda for people that know nothing about transit.
So, it gives LESS THAN ONE DAY'S NOTICE to a public event, that is then held in the middle of the day, in a remote transit center that is not anywhere near any significant employment centers (you know, things like Nike, Intel, downtown Portland, etc.)...
Of course TriMet will then be able to say "Well we tried this, but there wasn't much public interest!"
OF COURSE NOT, when you give no advance notice, and host the event at an out-of-the-way location that is hardly convenient for people at that time of day! Now if the bus were there say from 3:00-7:00 PM as people are moving through the Beaverton TC to get home, you'd have interest. Or run the bus as a downtown Mall shuttle (and heck, put it on the 83 on Sundays!), you'd have interest...
Another bone-headed decision at TriMet that they can use to justify their own opinions that people don't care. How am I supposed to see this bus when I'm scheduled to be at work - I can't just call in sick for this event.
(Of course, if I were an unemployed slackass, like the two people that give me grief here, that don't even pay into TriMet's payroll taxbase and have been witnessed evading fares, but then kick TriMet's big fat ass...)
If you read the linked article you would find this passage:
"The zero-emissions, American-made bus will run on various TriMet routes between June 23 and July 3, providing extra trips between scheduled service on weekdays. (It doesn’t have a fare box, so rides will be free!)"
You can argue about tomorrow's event, but that's not the sole showing.
put it on the 83 on Sundays!
40' buses are not usable on Line 83.
don't even pay into TriMet's payroll taxbase and have been witnessed evading fares
Given my pay stubs and receipts for mobile ticket purchases, that would not be me.
FYI: There is no cost to TriMet as BYD Motors has been shuttling around this bus across the country to allow transit facilities to learn more and try them out.
Since TriMet doesn't have any Fast Charging infrastructure on the route, they'll be limited to a few runs a day - my guess is out of Merlo.

So, Jason "TriMet suck-up" McHuff...Exactly what the fuck does that mean? "Various TriMet Routes". That's REALLY helpful for someone to know where to find the bus... Maybe you forgot, it's 40 miles from Troutdale to Forest Grove. But I want to see you walk it to find this bus.

Says who? I don't see any signs that state a vehicle length restriction.
To be nitpicky, my understanding is the particular bus that is making the rounds to transit agencies around the country and currently in Portland for demo purposes is still a Chinese-made bus. Therefore, TriMet's assertion that the bus used in the Portland demo being "American-made," I believe is false.
The first two "American-made" BYD coaches came off the Lancaster California assembly line at the end of April and it is my understanding that they went Antelope Valley Transit in California and the next batch going to LA Metro.
Initially, the majority of the parts will still be coming from China. But at least, Warren Buffet owns 10% of the company.

Well, maybe they'll post a schedule or give status updates. But in any case, you claimed that Friday was the only showing which is not true.

Do you think a 40-foot bus is good and safe on this and other curves? Just because there isn't a sign doesn't mean something is a good idea. https://maps.google.com/maps?layer=c&cbll=45.517699,-122.708078&panoid=l8ZXFrTzDDN3UrnE5FLU9A&cbp=12,340.09,,0,1.1
This is typical Erik - constantly complaining that buses never get special treatment...then they get special treatment, and guess what? Still complaining. That's why they delete your comments Erik...because no matter what they do, you will never be happy.
Another example: you complain about not getting new buses, then they buy new buses, but you're still complaining.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the cost. Mine and about 200 others promised pension and insurance

Bob Nelson says they're going to be tweeting which routes the bus will be on in this video:
