Craigslist Trimet rant

If you are riding trimet and some one has a life threatening emergency. Call 911 immediately from your cell phone.

What trimet is doing with its $21 million budget surplus. They are letting it sit in the bank and protecting them selves 1st while not training drivers for even basic 1st aid, emergency training or how to call 911. What is trimet's policy for medical emergencies? Call dispatch, wait on hold, have trimet managers come to the scene 1st. Never call 911, tell passengers not to call it. Lie to passengers and say that the driver has called 911 when that has not happened and can not happen- because the driver only has a radio that only connects to trimet not a phone. I hope the lady who had a heat stroke on the bus today, makes it.

26+ minutes for fire men 31+ min for ambulance to get to the lady because trimet never made the call -- AND TOLD OTHERS NOT to call 911.
Today on the bus a woman had a heat stroke, then passed out, and stopped breathing. first the bus driver ignored passengers calls to stop the bus and get help we had an emergency. When he finally stopped drivng-then he instructed people not to all call 911 at once- he would do it from his bus. This seemed reasonable. Did he call?- No! what he did was stand there for 8 minutes staring while the woman vomited and incoherently had more heat strokes one right after the other. Then he got on his bus radio and called his manager. 5 minutes pass. he is on hold. More time passes then his manager - who is remote and not there asks a bunch of questions. The driver and trimet never called for help and kept instructing others not to. Mean while the heat stroking lady's friend decides to give her friend a ton of water. The heat stroke lady stumbles off the bus and proceeds to lie on the side walk puking. . 4 minutes. a tri met employee shows up. he is not medically trained and he is a douche. he is just trying to protect trimet and see if trimet will get in trouble for this. 10 minutes later a fire truck shows up.6 minutes later an ambulance shows up. Trimet- always late- always not caring about people. It is a great thing that people on the bus did not listen to the driver and called 911 on their cell phones anyway, because trimet never did. I would have stepped in an done 1st aid but the heat stroke lady's " friend" was beating and slapping her passed out friend's face and yelling, and I did not want to fight her. I was not up for a fight. I hate summer. Go away sun.

What to do.
pour water on them
call 911 this person needs to go to a hospital

remove shoes, socks hats, tight clothing- remove all the clothing that you can, have them lie down on their side. pour water on them.
if they are conscious have them take 1 or 2 slow baby sips of water every couple of minutes. They are not dehydrated- they are over heated. dissolve a pinch of salt in the water bottle this regulates body temp.
If you can make a cold water bath- put them in it seated and have some one support the torso - so the heat victim does not pas out in the water.

  1. A dispatcher responded to this on Facebook here it is reprinted:

Juli Marie This is a damn shame!! I mean REALLY???? This article is so far FROM THE TRUTH. Not only did the operator call in for help, not only did my partner call 911, not only did I give out the call to the supervisor, not only did the supervisor respond, not only did medical respond but it was within approximately 8 MINUTES!! She was transported and the operator did a good job calling in for help but all of my coworkers who teamed up to help this passenger. Tsk tsk for not finding this audio and piecing it together!!! Funny how our other calls are recorded & put out there for everyone to hear!! The person who wrote this is a hot mess and sounds like an absolute moron!!! Shame on anyone who believes this!!! Our operators call in for people in distress on their buses, on the road, at bus stops and even at random locations. Oh Lawd did this article make me heated!!!
