PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 17-year-old suffered serious injuries Monday evening after being stabbed during a fight with approximately 20 people at the Hollywood Transit Station, police said.

The fight broke out around 5:30 p.m. at the MAX station located at 4110 NE Halsey Street, police said.

Witnesses told police they saw several people run from the scene and onto a westbound MAX train. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested, police said. He is identified as Geavony Ferreira.
He has been charged with first-degree assault, which is a Ballot Measure 11 crime. His case is being handled by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office in adult court and he remains lodged at the Donald E. Long Detention Center.
According to court documents, Ferreira was at the transit center with his mom and sisters “and possibly others” when he saw another person with whom he had an “ongoing dispute” with.
Ferreira and the other individual, whose name and age have not been released, confronted each other and began to fight, according to court documents. Witnesses told police that Ferreira was being beaten badly and that his mother and sisters become involved with the confrontation.
At some point, the 17-year-old got involved with the fight, according to court records. Witnesses told police that Ferreira reportedly armed himself with “brass knuckles” and started punching the 17-year-old boy multiple times.
The 17-year-old fell to the ground and witnesses told police he was stabbed several times in the chest and neck. Court documents show witnesses told officers that Ferreira was seen with a “dark or black colored knife.”
As the fight broke up, several people left, including the suspect. Witnesses said the suspect was in his mid-teens and was described wearing a “Raiders” jacket, records show.
Transit Police responded to the Holladay MAX station in Northeast Portland near the Lloyd Center where they found a person matching Ferreira’s description. He was walking with two females. Officers stopped all three and one of the females was found to be in possession of a rolled up Raiders sweatshirt, records show.
Officers obtained consent to search the property belonging to the females and found brass knuckles, records show.
The 17-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital with traumatic stab wounds, police said. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
Ferreira was taken to the Portland Police Bureau’s Detective Division where he was interviewed by Detective Todd Prosser. The boy denied having any involvement with the fight, records show, but later said he was at the transit center where he saw friends and got into a “verbal” argument and left the scene. The boy also admitted he was wearing a black Raiders sweatshirt.

Records show Ferreira “demanded” to know how he could be charged with stabbing someone if police hadn’t found the weapon.
The victim was taken to a local trauma hospital. Originally, police said his injuries were life-threatening but “surgical intervention” appears to have been successful. Police have not released the boy’s condition.
His name is not being released.
Witnesses to the case are asked to call 503.823.0400.
Sharquise Mott, who claims to be the victim’s cousin, says the brawl was prompted by a Facebook post. Those involved are believed to be high schoolers.
The Hollywood Transit Station was closed for the investigation.
KOIN 6 News is choosing to identify Ferreira  because he has been charged under Oregon’s Ballot Measure 11 statute.
