Henry Beasley

Brothers and Sisters,

Recently, we’ve had a number of attacks on transit workers and the district has done nothing but put Band-Aids on gaping wounds and in some cases done nothing at all.

On the 9th of this month, we had a senior operator savagely attacked just moments after being relieved on a road relief.  Receiving a concussion, 2 black eyes, and other related injuries. While spectators just sat and watched without helping them.

Assaults have soared in recent years, without real action to stem the problem other than grand-standing and pacification of transit workers while the number steadily increase.  When will we say, “Enough is enough?”

This is just one of many big problems that we are experiencing, while other departments are going through issues as well; we cannot forget them as well. To our fellow mechanics, we see the scourge of outsourcing, hiring off the streets and warranty work and other things are affecting you folks negatively.  To our fellow Service worker, the reduced numbers of workers to do the job and the push to perform miracles every night does not go unnoticed by your co-workers. To our fellow para-transit folk, still having to deal with the inhumane treatment while remaining professional dealing with the special need population, “we support you.”  To our other departments, we do hear the need to be properly staffed to handle various needs throughout the district continues to make problems fester. We are calling for an action in SUPPORT of our fellow co-workers.  In a show of real solidarity, we are asking members to BAND-TOGETHER.

From 9/18 to 9/24 we are asking that members wear a Band-Aid on your right cheek.  When the general public sees this, it will create a conversation that we can finally have with the riding public about the impact assaults in the district. We must BAND-TOGETHER and support our other departments and their individual problems that continue to get ignored.
