Once again, our management fails to protect us. How? They allow the media to portray us in a negative light by A) not reporting full and complete statistics; B) by releasing statements that further cast us in shadow, such as "we do not condone..." when it hasn't been proven that an operator in question actually committed an alleged offense; C) by not standing up and boldly proclaiming that it will pursue each aggressor to the full extent of the law; and D) by not insisting the state legislature protect us with strict sentencing guidelines for assailants, or permanently excluding anyone who has been proven to assault one of us.
I understand your feeling but the last half of what you are saying needs to be cleared up Deke.
ReplyDelete1 an attack on the driver is not a crime against trimet its a crime against the driver. Trimet cannot prosecute the attacker.
2. Police collect information and facts and turn it over to the DA
3. The DA then goes after the attack, that is if the assaulted back them up by showing up as a witness.
4. Trimets suspension is usually not requires because there is prison time. (Not always) You may be right about needing to be suspended. I don't have the information on that.
6 if the attack is bad enough, You can persue a civil case against your attacker but the odds are they will not have money or assets. Go figure. If they do, its a slam dunk case after they are found guilty.
It's important to get the facts right if you are speaking in public. You do not want to be the person passing false data and statistics around as truth.
I understand the emotion but the legal system is the same for all, even bus drivers.
