TriMet will soon start construction on an unneeded and expensive light-rail project. They call it “A Better Red,” but a more accurate name would be “A Redundant Red.”
This project is intended to improve the MAX system’s schedule reliability and increase service frequency between Beaverton and the Hillsboro Fair Complex.
It will do this, but at what cost? It will: Retain the light-rail bottleneck at the Rose Quarter Junction and the Steel Bridge; limit TriMet’s ability to improve service frequency on all other MAX lines; reduce Red Line connections to eastside buses and trains at the Gateway Station; require building an operator layover facility, track and switches at the Hillsboro Fair Complex; require building a station two blocks north of the Gateway Station; require laying one-third of a mile of new track and two bridges north of the Gateway Station; not significantly increase system ridership; and waste over $200 million of taxpayer money.
It is a waste of money because the benefits of “A Better Red” can be achieved at little cost and, at the same time, allow TriMet to improve service frequency on the entire MAX system. I presented an alternative to TriMet at its March board of directors meeting but, so far, I have not heard from them.

Dudes, what's your freaking deal? Why do you state really hard at my hands for my fare? No eye contact, no hello, no nod of acceptance or recognition of good will. You don't answer when I say hello and refuse to communicate with me. You clearly hate the world and pull this munuevre out especially for people you don't like (often times me ) And I see you do it to some people and not others. I've been riding the bus here for 15 years; I've seen all the shit. I've seen people die, get attacked, have heart attacks, get in fights, harass and scream, OD, tweek out and everything else you could imagine. So I know the job is tough. But there are plenty of other drivers who've been doing it longer and drive worse lines than yours yet don't do this no matter how bad of a time they're going through. So what's your excuse? Why do you have to resort to such childish behavior? Can you please stop? I'd rather have you just say nothing and ignore me. That I can at least repect. Cause I know shit can get crazy and it can disturb a person down to the core so I'll cut you some slack too. Especially if you used to drive the 2am number 20 out to Gresham several years ago before the 24hr service thing. That shit was crazy. (And I don't think any of those dudes ever really resorted to this kinda behavior either so props to them) But still, I know you can do better. The better you treat me the more likely I will be to have your back when the shit goes down. And I will too. I promise. Just don't be a dick. SOURCE

From my point of view it’s just a tragedy that Deke is giving up writing his Trimet blog.
One less voice of reason among the never ending pro establishment propaganda.
His readership has “slumped” apparently. If I cared about views or friends or favorites or any of the standard measures of success I would’ve given up blogging years ago, over a decade ago actually.
But the culture known as TriMet must be in my genetic code. I happened to work there at a very unique time in history and approached my job in a way that I can’t imagine today. As a matter fact I know it wouldn’t be possible to do what I used to do when I was working there. Farewell Deke, you will be missed at the TriMet “club”. The few of us that seem to be addicted to this material will carry on.
