What to do now?

Well the grudge filled Marcus Griffith once again has taken over Trimet policy
.
For some reason Trimet management seems to be afraid of this guy  the question is why?

It's bad enough that I have been hamstrung while at work, now I am hamstrung on my on time.

All due to the likes of a propagandist like Marcus Griffith who pretends to be a reporter?

It's incredibly sad that our management has absolutely no backbone to stand up to the likes of him.

My activities are protected under Oregon State law.

Trimet rules and regulations are so confusing and obscured that they basically make no sense and as time goes on they keep changing how they want me to interpret them.

TRIMET, LET ME MAKE THIS EASY FOR YOU, HERE ARE THE NEW RULES, PUT THEM IN YOUR RULE BOOK:

NO EMPLOYEE, ON OR OFF DUTY, MAY MAKE AN AUDIO OR VIDEO PRODUCTION OF ANY TRIMET VEHICLE, PASSENGER,  EMPLOYEE, BUILDING OR ANY OTHER FACILITY WITHOUT GETTING EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM THE TRIMET EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.

NOW IT'S CLEAR!

Hey Al, just to clarify, we haven't made any changes in policy because of complaints from this individual. The policy that is referenced (HR202) has been in place since July 2009. No changes have been made during that time.

But technically, Marcus Griffith or any old psycho on the street can videotape TriMet property or buses. But the employees cannot. Why is that?

Why is it that when I have legitimate service complaints about TriMet, they go unanswered? (Mr. Collins, I'd love for you to look through my history of legitimate service complaints and explain why a large number of them were ignored with out any response; or when I was promised a response none was given; or that it took months to get a response. I'm talking about complaints about buses not showing up, defective buses, bus schedule problems, bus stop problems...things that are 100% under TriMet control.)

But TriMet seems to bow down to some guy up in Vancouver who isn't even a regular TriMet rider, who has no personal interaction with what he complains about?

Is this Marcus Griffith related to someone at TriMet? Does he have some inside connection that I don't have? I guess at TriMet...it doesn't matter that you actually use the system...it just matters WHO YOU ARE. (And developers who love Streetcar and MAX, please stand to the front of the line. Have your cash contributions or checkbooks ready.)

Erik H.,

No one is "bowing down" to Griffith. He contacted TriMet as a journalist with Vancouver Voice equesting a response to specific questions about videos posted online, and we responded to his questions. We have not made policy or procedural changes as a result of anything that Griffith has raised, nor have we ever asked an employee to not engage in blogging about TriMet.

In 2009 we made a change to TriMet's HR policy regarding internet communications. These changes were made because of the growing population of employees who are active in social media and "speak" about TriMet in an newly emerging public arena. This is no different than what other agencies or companies are doing.

If anything, TriMet has done more to recognize the freedom of speech of our employees than we have to condemn it.

And I'm sorry I can't speak to the lack of response to previous complaints that you've made. I think I've responded to several issues that you've raised that are in the arenas that I am involved with. We don't have the resources to monitor all aspects of social media and respond each time.

His Article: http://blotter.vanvoice.com/2010/12/who-are-these-people-and-why-is-trimet-secretly-filming-them.html

My Response: #1 TriMet is a *public* transit system, thereby a public place. It would be the same as being filmed while at Pioneer Square. #2, his tapings are not "secret", his camera is out in full view, hes not playing candid camera, or trying to spy, hes video blogging. #3 This story is extremely one sided, you mean to tell me you could not find one person that thinks candidly filming in any public place, such as 6th and Yamhill, Hawthorne Bridge, Burnside and 10th is ok? The Media films shots with groups of people all the time with out asking if its ok, I do not see you attacking them. Filming anyone, including you in a public place is perfectly legal, if thats going to be a problem, i suggest you stay home.
