Defusing tensions on TriMet

 In recent years, TriMet has seen increasing violence towards both operators and riders alike. This is due to many factors, but one of them is the mental health of transit riders. TriMet needs to create policies and training for their staff on how to defuse this kind of violence quickly and peacefully.

“TriMet said they would like to have 65.” Yet this is a step in the wrong direction—it would make TriMet more militant by adding more and more officers on trains, buses and streetcars. Meeting violence with violence will only perpetuate a cycle of militarization.

York said TriMet needs ***890*** full-time operators to drive its schedule and currently has ***969***, with ***several hundred more*** drivers working in a part-time capacity. but then in the exact same story she says this:

***TriMet spokesperson Tia York confirmed that the agency still has no plans to reverse the cuts in service it made last year but said that it is no longer facing a major operator shortage.*** what a freaking crime syndicate and there's the union shilling for them

she says they have more drivers than they need but will NOT restore the service after they spent a year and a half telling people that they would restore the service ---people actually believe this shit---

TRIMET DEKE

 Transit agency management is fraught with turnover. 

No matter how they pontificate on how much was learned "from the last time", many lessons are long forgotten along with their ensuing golden gooses. 

Perhaps those before failed to document suggestions for the "next time" when they left. 

Whatever the case, each time Portland is hit with winter weather, the connection between common sense and those who deal with the storms are filled with static and confusion. 

There is no seamless transition of leadership from those who should benefit from past "studies".
