These bus drivers know what solidarity is
| "Screw the court order" |
With neither the BEST administration nor the staff ready to blink first, the authorities had to move court to provide relief to commuters. The HC ordered the staff of around 22,000 drivers and conductors to report to work at 4.45pm. The mass leave that began at 4am on Tuesday was not called off even by late on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday morning, only 17 conductors and 20 drivers turned up for work and only eight out of the fleet of around 4,200 buses came on roads. But even these eight had to be brought back to the depot after one of the buses was damaged and a driver sustained injuries due to stone-pelting by protesting workers at Charkop in Kandivli.

Dear Friends,
Do you live on Pothole Road? Do you feel like a stunt driver when avoiding potholes? Few argue that county roads are in disrepair, but ask our residents and you'll hear that roads are the priority (along with public safety). The simple truth is that our allocation of gasoline tax dollars is flung far and wide. We need our county commissioners to stand against gas tax dollars being drained by light rail and pathways. Similarly we need our county commissioners to stop TriMet funds from your payroll taxes being bled for light rail before bus service meets our everyday transportation needs.

TRIMET BUS DRIVER DRAGGED INTO OFFICE AND HUMILIATED BY MANAGEMENT
She described her experience. Her voice has been changed for obvious reasons. Management berates the employee for missing a stop
TRIMET FUEL FUTURES FIASCO
| Trimet officials obviously didn't read this |
Trimet officials have been publicly blaming the union for all financial problems at Trimet while it is the management themselves that have created the problem by wantonly wasting tax payer dollars.
And in this article we see how the pattern of keeping things out of the public domain is standard operating proceudre at Trimet. Everything is secret at TrimetTriMet has lost $2.6 million so far on a two-year diesel fuel hedge contract it entered into in August, part of a bleak budget picture that has the transit agency proposing to cut 12 of its 93 bus lines.
TriMet did not disclose the $2.6 million lost from September through January when it proposed last month some $6 million in service cuts for next fiscal year -- its sharpest reductions in more than a decade. Instead, the agency emphasized sharply reduced payroll tax receipts, which make up more than half TriMet's revenues.
Nor have agency officials discussed the hedge losses before the agency's full board, even though TriMet could lose hundreds of thousands of dollars more in coming months.
The board's finance committee is aware of the losses, board President George Passadore said.
The amount of the losses came to light last week through the efforts of Portland citizen activist Thomas O'Keefe, who pressed the agency for details on the hedge agreements.
Passadore, a former Wells Fargo executive, said there was "absolutely" no attempt to hide the hedge losses.

TriMet Tuesday in Portland's Community Court
You can plead not guilty and get a date in court.
You can pay a fine. The basic fine for not having a valid ticket is $175, but can go as high as $250. If you attend court you can have it reduced to $90.
You can plead no contest, complete eight hours of community service and have the ticket dismissed. Later it’s possible to have it expunged. But if you fail to complete the hours, the misdemeanor, “Theft of Service” goes on your record and you can’t get it expunged.
If your ticket is expired, or if you left your honored citizen pass at home, the result is the same, she says. You didn’t have a valid ticket to ride.
“There’s no attorney because this is a violation and not a crime,” Arling says. Technically, however, most of the charges are “theft of service.”
“You’re all innocent till proved guilty,” he says, and explains the options again.
“The good news is that there is no risk of jail no matter what. The bad news is that because it’s a violation you have fewer rights. The standard of proof is a preponderance of the evidence, not beyond a reasonable doubt. That’s 51 percent compared to 99 percent.”

Portland (and Trimet) ranks close to the bottom on funding retirees pensions/benefits
Interesting indeed that Portland (and Trimet) , the so called 'socialist city' has made as public policy to not fund pensions/OPEB obligations.
It's just more evidence that the Portland as advertised is complete bullshit. The oligarchs have taken all the money that was supposed to be for retirees and spent it on other things. Then they all cry "employee benefits will kill us"
One con after another in 'sustainable green' Portlandia. If only we can wake up the citizenry to the farce that gets played out oh so professionally on them.

Trimet general manager decides that the last arbitration award was sufficient for current retirees
Trimet Gen. manager Neil Mcfarlane has changed his stance on retiree benefits.
McFarlane says "after further analysis it became apparent to me that changing retiree benefits beyond the scope of arbitrator Gabba's last ruling would put some retirees financial future in jeopardy"
Mcfarlane further said "we don't want to send a message to our current employees that Trimet will abandon them after they retired, that our word is meaningless"
"We already have a morale problem at Trimet and we don't need to further exasperate this problem".
"Now our current retirees won't have to worry about medical bankruptcy during their retirement. After studying the evidence it became clear that we can fund those medical benefits as promised by cutting some executive staff and spending discretionary funds with more scrutiny."
"We don't need to penalize those people for the past mistakes."
