My understanding is that LA's concerns about pollution and particulates trumps whatever mechanical quirks a CNG bus might have. Besides a modest price premium, the refueling setup is a serious capital cost, but, hey, that's the kind of expense Trimet always has the money for.
Would love to talk to a knowledgeable mechanic about the down side to CNG buses.
And that diesel New Flyer bus was purchased in 1998??
Meanwhile, "green", "environmentally friendly" Portland has 1992 era buses in regular service. Hmmmmmmmmm.....................
(Tacoma's Pierce Transit also has a 100% CNG fleet, and Cherriots was aiming for 100% CNG but changed its mind and started again buying diesel buses with the 100 and 200 series Gillig Low-Floor buses.)
