I wonder why the State of Oregon doesn't inspect TRIMET buses for violations?

Any time a D40LF is hauling more then 10 people in the isle way the front steer axle is over weight.

The low profile front tires are rated at 6940 lbs. at 120 psi, a tire typically loses 2 psi per month unless it’s filled with nitrogen.

The rear tires are rated at 6400 lbs. each at 120 psi.

6940 x 2 = 13,880
6400 x 4 = 25,600

Total tire max weight 39,480 lbs.

The steer axle weighs about 9,000 lbs. empty, (no people).

The rear axle weighs about 18,900 lbs. empty, (no people).

Bus Tare Weight: 27,900

39 folks @ 170 lbs each = 6630
20 isle way standees @ 170 ea. = 3400

Avg. Loaded bus = 27,900 + 10,030 = 37,930

Conclusion: All the weight is on the most important axle of the bus has, it will only take one tire blow out and will never see an over crowded bus in Portland again.
