I just realized that this contract is from 5 years ago!
Either the contract has been renewed "in perpetuity" of they gave me the wrong "public information"!

For the price they are paying these people they can buy 5,950 audio recording devices and end once and for all the disputes about weather we are calling the stops or not.
Oh yea, but then they couldn't "set up" people they don't like could they?
Automated bus stop announcement programs are sold for....your not going to believe this....
$200 per unit!

For about $300K, I wonder how many Automated Stop Announcement devices could have been installed in the remaining TriMet bus fleet?

And I bet those "secret riders" are paid minimum wage with ZERO benefits. All the corporate profits go out of state. Isn't privatization great??
I BETCHA ROSS OLE BUDDY!
The money spent on the secret rider program could have been used for 2 cleaners at each garage to wipe the windows and mop the floors
on the buses.
I see $29.75 per ride * 2000 rides per year * 5 years.
I don't see where you're getting $148.75 per ride.
Still, I agree - this is money that could be better spent elsewhere.
Steve: As I read it, the program costs ~$60K per year. You may be able to buy (1) bus cleaner for that price.
Actually, First Transit is a division of First Group USA, which is a subsidiary of FirstGroup plc of the UK. So sorta out of state, but more out of country!
