Also shocking that the $1.5 billion Orange Line will add 7.3 miles ... and cost 50% as much as the whole 67-mile system.

 Total MAX construction cost, in 2010 $$: $3 billion, or $9 million for each week since 1986. TriMet's current annual shoftfall: $17 million.

Yet, a simple $200 million investment would purchase over 400 brand new buses - with zero increase in operating expense and in fact would actually SAVE TriMet money due to lower fuel purchases and lower maintenance issues, AND improve customer satisfaction with the result of increased revenue.

But we can't afford $200 million, it's too expensive. But $1.5 billion? Oh, let's do it!
