What's interesting is that TriMet made a HUGE deal about how it saved money by using non-metal items on the Interstate Line (Yellow Line)...you'll see a lot of fiberglass and recycled plastic there. Cheaper and doesn't require grounding.
Apparently TriMet figured out that it was too cheap...had to go back to the expensive way of things. Being cheap is only for the bus system.

Anything metal on an LRT station platform is grounded. It's a safety thing.
