Cascade Policy Institute's latest anti-union diatribe continues the
strange anti-union argument we've seen ("Nearly a third of Oregon union
workers want out," June 24).
Steve Buckstein trumpets the "fact" that nearly a third of Oregon
union members would opt out of their unions. Nearly a third, according
to a series of Google Consumer Surveys, means that 68.8 percent of union
members are perfectly happy with their union membership and everything
they get because of their union membership. Cascade Policy Institute's
argument against unions, despite a 68.8 percent approval rating, sure
makes for a strange democracy.
Anti-union groups always fail to mention that union members can elect
to decertify their union with a majority vote. You know, democracy via
majority rule.
