Nice exchange between Erik Halstead and Jack Bogdanski

Erik of course seems to ignore that most (I'm not sure how many, I know I saw one the other day) of the 1700s and 1800s have been retired and that TriMet has a plan in place that is being implemented to retire the rest of the buses from both of those manufacturers.

It should also be noted that he has said in the past that those buses are still safe to use.

Sorry, but "most" is not the same as "all." I see plenty of 1400s and both 17 and 1800s on the road each day, with no plan to replace 1900's this year. And that plan to retire the rest is set for 2015.

Trimet still has the oldest fleet of buses in the nation, go by streetcar

Those everpresent old buses are a disgrace, they make "green" Portlandia look like a 3rd world joke.
Thanks Fred Hansen, hope you're enjoying your $16,000 a month lifetime pension Down Under as
your legacy bus fleet pollutes Portland's air.

Jason seems to forget that FTA guidelines call for a bus to have a 12 year lifespan.

Those buses are STILL in service. Yes, Jason. I drove by Merlo. I saw a row of Flxibles. I saw two 1400s on the road, in revenue service today.

But I guess because Jason "I know everything and I hate Erik for no reason other than to be a fucking asshole and to be a royal prick" McHuff says they've been retired, that they must not count.

We've discussed this before. 12 years is not the definitive life span of a bus, especially in mild climates.

I do acknowledge that the 1400-1900 series buses have been kept in use much longer than that and that many are still in service, but the fact that there is a replacement plan in place and being followed shows that TriMet does realize they need to be retired.

Is it happening late? Arguably so, but it is happening.

Hey guy... only reason we are getting rid of flxible buses is because we can't find parts for them anymore. I'm sure we would replace them eventually anyway... but otherwise pollution or no they run as long as the cost analysis plan says they run then... *poof* gerlock pulls another out on a stretcher.
Also I believe they are planning on retiring the 2000 series before long. They don't want to carry detroit 4 banger parts anymore.
