TRIMET gives notice that it intends to slash bus service

JOE ROSE HERE!

People seem to miss the point, which is TRIMET IS NOT INTERESTED IN TRANSIT in reality , they are interested in TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT and transit oriented development needs rail so developers can be assured that they will always have government subsidized transportation to their businesses. (if you click that link you will see  a video presentation that clearly describes that light rail is for business)  The thing about rail is that once its in its in forever, bus service can be moved with demand. Light rail creates its own demand

The less bus service the more people are forced to live on light rail lines.
Every time they cut a bus line it forces transit dependent people to move. I saw this for myself when I used to drive the 67 bus and it was cut on Sundays. I knew at least a dozen people that moved to developments on the light rail line.
This is the real agenda, how to get people to move along the rail lines.

The best way to do that is too limit existing bus service around the lines.

Trimet likes to pretend that its a cost thing, but the reality is that its part of the larger 'transit oriented development' agenda. Is that necessarily a bad thing? It's only bad for the people that are using transit now because they will be forced to move. It might very well pay off in the distant future. My biggest objection to these rail projects is the obscene costs and huge profits they generate for the developers along these lines  with the multiple tax credits handed to them by the local governments. Fascism is the fusing of government and business, which is exactly what we have happening in America today. Transit oriented development is central planning using the government machinery to profit private interests.

Remember, this policy is NOT coming from Portland, its actually coming from the Federal government. Without the Federal governments subsidy of all this none of it would be happening. It's the so called AGENDA 21. ( I don't necessarily agree with everything in this video)
