They said the leaners were created to comply with ADA rules. Now we know for sure that they are nothing more than anti homeless devices which also punish legitimate transit users who now can't sit down. Truly disgraceful.

The new ad benches don't allow for sleeping either, so I think this argument about the leaners specifically targeting sleepers is bogus. Heck even the existing shelter benches don't allow for sleepers.
Heh! A lot of places go one better - they bolt a rail into the middle of the bench so that you can sit, but not lie down. There's a term for that, some sort of architectural thing, but I forget what they call it at the moment.
Think that's bad? Some places are inserting spikes into the cement near condo entrances, so people won't sleep there.
